Good stuff here. Back in my younger Army days in the Cold War I believed I would survive anything but a direct hit. I had more training than most in NBC warfare, took it seriously back then. (Dude, you volunteered for it. Paid off, six weeks as a grader with Brigade.) I might have survive but with the radiation I gave myself two weeks before I succumbed. But now many moons later I wouldn't last long. Can't run, don't have all the equipment and gear I once had. I already have thyroid problems. So I figure I would go down fast. Still got my DOA pamphlet No. 50-3 "The Effects of Nuclear Weapons" March 1977.

I picked up a brand new old stock CBRN suit from my local surplus store a few months back for like 50 bucks. It's the tricolor desert camo but color doesn't matter really. I need to get a better gas mask the two I have are older one is chzech the other is American Vietnam Era. And CBRN suits serve another purpose. They work well for scent control while hunting deer because of the charcoal built into suit.

First thing that needs to be established is , was the destination a ground blast or an air blast? If it's a ground blast than yes , there will be a considerable amount of irradiated ash that will flow with the jet stream and cover a vary large area but if it's an air burst you won't get the ash at all and the radiation will be contained to the area of destination. Both have devastating effects though for sure. In either case the safest thing anyone can do is stay indoors and tape off all windows and doors and don't forget your attic access. This is where your preps are going to shine bright folks.

Biggest concern I have is living in the suburbs about 15 miles from a major intl airport. Most experts say that the cities aren't truly nuke targets but all military and important infrastructure would be. I'd imagine a major intl airport is one of those targets. To add to my concerns, there's no basements in this region of the country.

If it happens we have an entire navy fleet between us and them. I’m on the west coast, Beale afb will be able to intercept plenty of missiles before they’re hit. It’s not irregular to see Afvs APCs and different types of anti air vehicles out here on the rail roads. All of which are hardened to protect the crew from nuclear and biological weapons. Could be commandeered if it’s empty. You don’t got a basement so turn your house into a safe zone. Cover any all exits with thick plastic sheets and duct tape. It’s not perfect but it’s the best ya can do without a bunker. Doors, windows and vents need to be covered. Getting a suit and mask is required if you wanna survive. 90% is cheap Chinese shit that’s just a ripoff. A good kit like all kits is thousands of dollars. Or high hundreds at least. Cleaning is one thing on this topic I need to research more. In my area we would have the problem of trees being covered in contaminated dust/ash, extending our sit down period by weeks. Wind blows it’s gonna have them trees sprinkling like it’s winter.
