The Indians used to say it was easy to find a white man because of the huge fire.they’re not wrong. Sometimes you gotta have one in the wet and cold but there are ways to do it like the Dakota Fire Hole ect to really reduce the signature of light and smoke even a choice of shelter can make a huge difference,sometimes you just gotta freeze too 😂

The stiffener in my pack is also a sit pad, and I have a wind shirt in my pack or pocket, so I don't have to pull out the poncho and liner unless we're planning on staying awhile, maybe doing some 'smores and singing Kumbaya. 😉

Simple Answer: There is no fire. Long answer....you are now in survival mode...fire must be made small, in a hole, feed the fire with dedicated air flow in order to burn hotter/less smoke, use a reflection wall to direct any heat/light back towards you and not out into the forrest. Phil

reflectors dont work, guys. it's just something to flash and alert the enemy. .Wear adequate clothing and carry adequate sleeping/shelter gear. If it's really cold the enemy aint doing anything. The thing to do, everyplace, is dig a tunnel and stay in it for a year after shtf, coming out only 1 hour, only at night, while the 99% die-off. Have a year's supply of food scatter-buried at your BOL. Keep the garden seeds in your freezer so that they dont go bad. Walk beside a mountain bicycle to bug out. 100 lbs of food on the bike, 30 lbs on your back, 50 lbs on a trailer towed behind the bike. Amazon sells solid rubber bike tires and a spring clamp that holdes your silenced autorfle across the handlebars. Move only at night Some sorts of half-good night vision are only a few hundred bucks. Have pre-buried empty 20 gallon drums ready to get your nut butters, spices, coconut oil out of sight and away from bugs, animals and the elememts. Freeze that stuff so it doesn't have to be replaced once a year wally's sells a 8 cubic foot chest freezer for $200.

Sometimes, you just have to. As humans, in cold temps for extended periods 48+hrs, we need to be able to get warm at least a couple hours everyday. Layering isn't enough...when you're pre-hypothermic cold, you're not really that effective.

@@BoomerChimichanga bs, you CAN wear clothng that lets you sit at a seal's breathing hole all DAY in the wind at -20F. You dont need that in the lower 48 states, but you CAN have layering that suffices while you move and it does't take all that much MORE gear to be adequate as you sleep, either. IF you know what to sleep in and what clothing to wear.
