the high register of her voice is because shes playing the ghost of cathy, for more context to what the song is telling you either read the book by emily bronte or watch one of the many films made about the book

Paul Simon is the song writer and composer. Art Garfunkel sang the first verse. I believe Paul Simon sang the second verse. Other songs to check out are "Sound of Silence" and "I am a Rock"

Kate was bullied in her Catholic school. They pulled her out and put her in public school. Her solace was her music which she never told any friends about it. She came home everyday and instead of hanging out with friends, going to dances etc., she played her piano and created. She wrote over a hundred songs by her mid teens. Her whole family was musical and were a great supporter of her talent.

Hi Maureen, Like some have said it was in about 1986, I'm sure it is on the Slippery When Wet album, which I do have a few party scratches on it being a Vinyl Record though I was the only person touching my records at parties. Still, I do believe @ronburgardt6495, The song was also used for the movie '' Young Guns" a Great Western film loosely based on Billy The Kid with The Sheen Brothers Charle Sheen and Emilio Estevez, Yes Emilio has a different Surname and is 62 while Charlie is younger at 59 ( My Age ) lol This song was playing when I was about 20 years old, The last year of the Best Years of my Life & my Party Years that started in October 1983 when I left home and started travelling around my Country just before I turned 14 ( yes I was 13 )... 1986 was also the year of the horrible Nuclear Power Plant accident in Chernobyl, Ukraine. This is still an awesome song and would be just as good if it was released today. IMO of course 😄
They had such beautiful voices. They harnorzined so well together. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊

Hi, pretty Maureen. I noticed two interesting things about this song. He sings an entire sentence as if it's one word with no break between words. Also, the use of strings is quite good. Another popular song of his is The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald (a cargo ship). It's a brilliant take on a historic event. But be prepared for an emotional experience with that one. Love❤ you, baby girl. Hugs 😊

It is absolutely real and as fantastic as it sounds, no filters, no auto tune, just pure and raw talent and musicality. You should read the novel "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Bronte. The song is a direct reflection of that novel, it is a tragedy I should warn you, but a really well written one. Both the novel and the song is gut wrenching, I think.
