Excellent design, it works well, but there are a couple features you could easily incorporate. One is a kill switch near the chute, which should really be longer than your arms, and you probably know why. The second is a bit more complex, but the benefits are tremendous -- in the vanes being added at 6:46 you should cut slots in these, 1.5 inches long by 3/8 inches wide, centred in the width of the large end of the four vanes. These 4 slots will serve as a passage of sorts for a rectangular piece of 1/4-inch steel stock you can affix to the chassis. Commercially made chippers have this component and it is called a twig buster -- it will break any twigs that make it through the chipper blades, and tend to plug your output. I should point out chipping wood when it is green is easier than chipping seasoned wood. Thanks for sharing!

As a noob welder, I was trying to understand why you chose different welding types when you did, MIG/TIG. I couldn't figure it out, and would be super grateful if you could explain. Also, the first branches looked like olive.. (if they're not, you can tell I'm a complete noob at botany (or whatever the word is) as well, however it gave me an idea... What about a olive oil press as a project? Really admire the quality of your work.

No reason in particular, from what I see, he may have a flux core welder. It a bit dirty and harder on thin stuff. The flywheel he tig for better control, you got time to see if it a good weld. It one of those whatever machine is closer, and tig make nice video.

Nice build, here are two suggestions. 1. Weld a substantial piece of steel at the bottom of the chute inside of the drum with close clearance to the blades. 2. Weld a backer bar behind the blades so that the bolts only have to hold the blades in place. The bar will absorb the impact of the blades contacting the wood.

There is a trick for the feeding. If the knives are angled upwards there will be clearance of the edge when cutting and this makes it easier for the cutter to "pull" the branches in by itself. If the knives are mounted flat there will only be gravity feeding the branches. Of course this "trick" only goes so far. Hence the hydraulic systems for feeding. Although I have seen purely mechanical infeeds as well. (And I do love your work. A new video from Make it Extreme is happy hour for me)
