I remember watching tv in Mexico when I was in grade school in the late 90’s and they had Dragonball GT when we were watching the Namek saga in the states. It was even dubbed into Spanish! Not fair!

@CoreyGoldwaves16 сағат бұрын
Mexico loves Dragonball because Dragonball is racist toward black people and Goku is seen and blonde haired and blue eyed when he goes Super Saiyin which suits their whole whiten up the race thing. Even though it was a black man named Gaspar Yanga that fought to liberate Mexico.

I'm American Latino and Dragonball was everything I imagined as a kid put on screen. Recently my young son drew Goku to give me as a present. Generational bridge.

I remember a family member mentioning something to me when I was a kid. It was big news when it came out that Vegata and Bulma were a couple that it even hit the local newspaper. I also noticed how far ahead they were in the series compared to the U.S. They were done with the Z and Goku hadn't become Super Saiyan yet here in the U.S.

how do cartel members watch goku literally refuse to kill the ultimate villain of the universe out of the goodness of his heart,, and then turn around and flay a cop and his son alive for snitching. How is that type of messaging resonant to them at all.

It makes me sad the new Dragon Ball Sparkling Zero for PS5 is not dub with the originals Spanish Mexico voices, it would be massive, without a doubt it would be the best selling Dragon Ball video game ever, I'm sure.

Dragon ball and Dragon Ball Z was public television. You didn't need cable to watch it. I think that contributed s lot to its success. I remember having like one channel (televisa) where I could watch these cartoons right sfter school.

My family drove to Mexico in the 90s and I was angry that they got more material to watch. For whatever reason, Toonami decided to restart the series during the battle of MajinBoo back to the start. Some other shows I watched there but not here was the thunder cats, Voltron, and Heman. I didn't have cartoon Network until like 7th grade.

Lack of physicality. What's the average height and weight for a young male in China? Now compare those kids to like, a Senior Highschool Football team from the American South and it's not even close. Any team sport where physicality is a part of the play is always going to be an issue

I've seen the original Dragonball Z series before it was released in the States and was completely confused by how neutered it was. Let's not even get into the butchered opening theme song they decided to replace the classic "Cha la, head cha la" opening with.

I think there's also a clear visual relationship between Dragon Ball and Latin America. You can easily see the saiyan's black hair, machismo and iconic outfits having relevance with people of central and south America.

It's not just a popular anime in Mexico... ...It's a religious institution!
@cesarperez99974 күн бұрын
There have been other animes that have also played an important role in Mexico's love with animes. Two of the old ones, Heidi and Remi. Then came Mazinger Z. Then Zodiac Knights, Captain Tsubasa (Super Campeones), Sailor Moon and Pokemon. They all had their place and time and do to this day. there were also other shows that were loved that were not animes, but that people still remember to this day like: Nopo y Gonta and Kiko, Taro y Kika... Yep, the good all times.

It's not a complicated answer. We grew up poor and only had access to antenna tv. This was one of few shows we had. Nothing more to it.

Every Latin American child is going to grow up on anime because anime was quite popular in Latin America before the US. Most people don't know this but Captain Tsubasa is Lionel Messi's favorite anime.
