Personally the tax on consumption and power to weight performance is too much. I speak from experience and won't make the same mistake in the future.

I have 2 x 300 tdi, one 90 and a 110 van, and a 110 TD5 CSW. I have a project vehicle and I am looking at BMW M57 3.0 straight six from the L322 Range Rover coupled to ZF 8 speed. The M57 conversion has been done a few times now. Will come back here after done.

The problem is you took cars that you didn't fix for the journey and now you create an impression that these bugs are failureywhen we know they build just for these type of conditions

Never said they weren't suited to the terrain. As we mentioned they have been in storage for a while and need some love, but this is the reality of owning old cars.

I converted a series 2A 6 cylinder petrol Land Rover, to a 4 cylinder Mitsubishi 5 speed diesel, same HP, but a lot more torque. Also from 16 mpg petrol consumption, to 28 mpg diesel consumption, imperial gallon, made it nice to drive and off road. I now have GM V8 turbo diesel pickups and a suburban, great power for highway driving, 20mpg imperial gallon, a bit hungry, but they are heavy.

Is it fun to have 35’s? Absolutely. So would some bolt-on portals and 40’s lol. But not at the expense of exploding the drivetrain. But if we’re being honest, 33’s get us to 95% of the stuff we want… and everywhere we need to go.
@HendriMouton4 ай бұрын
Exactly, for off-road touring the cons outweigh the pro with 35s

Is the auto transmission full mechanical as well, no computer?

It's the A442F with basic electronic shift control opposed to the hydraulic from the previous generation which didn't have lockup. It's still got the manual cable to adjust shifting firmness and the the torque converter can be locked up manually with a switch mod.

Wow, cups of raw fuel leaking out of the intake manifold and the "vw mechanic's'" fix it plan is to seal off the leak, because thats why it aint running right, lol! Stuck needle valve, misadjusted or broken off carburetor float is what any competent mech wouldve looked at. There was zero fuel metering in that engine. I checked out after that scene

I'm climbing from a stand still a bigger sand dune... You need to deflate the tires to 7-8 psi. You can see in the video below: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZiyqpalmapmeMU
Broader tyres are better, just dont spin on snow or sand, 1st gear diff lock let her idle through the terrain and you'll be fine.

When we drove into Richtersveld (2009) from the Namibian side we were asked how many days did we intend to stay there? If we were not at one of the gates on the agreed day, a helicopter would come looking for us. And we were obliged to have 40 liters of drinking water with us...!

Hi hendri I will love to do a build like this on my 110 200tdi. Where can I find an adapter plate for the land cruiser gearbox/tc? Also what model year Land Cruiser if it matters? Appreciate you help mate.
@HendriMouton Жыл бұрын
Honestly I would suggest sticking with the stock R380 gearbox as your gearing is much better suited with the Defender TC already and less work required. Any reputable machine shop should be able to match up an adapter plate for your engine and gearbox combo of choice. This one was an H151 box
