I converted a series 2A 6 cylinder petrol Land Rover, to a 4 cylinder Mitsubishi 5 speed diesel, same HP, but a lot more torque. Also from 16 mpg petrol consumption, to 28 mpg diesel consumption, imperial gallon, made it nice to drive and off road. I now have GM V8 turbo diesel pickups and a suburban, great power for highway driving, 20mpg imperial gallon, a bit hungry, but they are heavy.

Amazing 4x4. Think this was Toyota's best effort in the LC range (perhaps the 70 series being the exception. But they come at a ridiculous price tag. Toyota tax as we call it here) . I know a few here in Aus which have exceeded 800,000kms on the original motor. Another was featured on a local magazine having clocked 1million. They are like hen's teeth here too. Even the petrol motors. Looking forward to your build mate.

It's the A442F with basic electronic shift control opposed to the hydraulic from the previous generation which didn't have lockup. It's still got the manual cable to adjust shifting firmness and the the torque converter can be locked up manually with a switch mod.

I'm looking at a 95 VX limited with the HDFT motor and 220,000 kilometers. It's listed for $23,000 US dollars. Is it worth that price?
@HendriMouton3 жыл бұрын
That's quite a low mileage 80. If it's been properly taken care of and has a full service history it's definitely worth it. However if it's been neglected it can become a costly exercise to maintain. Auto or manual?
@MichaelKassa3 жыл бұрын
Congrats Hendri! I think I have pretty good idea of how luck and great you feel about your 80 series, because I have very similar beast (96 HD-FT, Manual, factory front and rear lockers). Glad you live in Cape Town, I would love to drive in a convoy with you one day just to prove that if you are very lucky you can find hen's teeth :)
