25:50 The only time this guy didn't make a ridiculous amount of noise, was when he did the cold plunge! 27:30 Biggest pet peeve in climbing? Guys who scream on every move!🤣
@thestruggleclimbingshow22 сағат бұрын
I mean, I guess we are all entitled to our pet peeves… But when I’m trying really hard, the screams just come out. I guess some people are able to try really hard without vocalizing it, ha ha. Not me tho. And honestly, I feel like it helps. But I have noticed that there’s a wide range of vocalization/non-vocalization when it comes to the pros that I have spent time with. Maybe it’s a genetic thing?

I wish pro climbers would start setting better examples. People are looking up to the professionals when they get into the sport and might assume that belaying like that is acceptable. It really isn't. End of. If they want to risk their climbers life, then that's on them. It's another thing to do it when being recorded.

@joffyjenkins92412 күн бұрын
@@thestruggleclimbingshow so why not add that to your video, why not put a comment in your video saying you don't stand by his belaying "technique" and that he's not a role model for climbing safety.
@thestruggleclimbingshow2 күн бұрын
Because i was very happy with how he belayed me. Great catches, never short roped me, and i decked exactly zero times. My point (joke) above was that Alex isn’t exactly the poster child for who safety-concerned climbers might want to emulate. From free solos to runout trad to risky speed tactics, he knows how to push gear and tactics beyond what the instruction manual states. I personally have zero issue hanging on an engaged GriGri. But if you have an opportunity to climb with Alex I suppose you could choose to not have him belay you. We all have the choice.

For 2 yrs I had a workout everyday. It worked, I made progress, but there were negatives. Recently, I've been doing 1 workout a week (after one of my twice-weekly climbing sessions), and I'm still making progress... if 1 works, then why did I bother doing 7 lol. The only disadvantage is that I actually enjoy working out, but if I replace that time with other things such as walking, time outside, etc., then it's not exactly a loss

In the seventies most of us climbed because it was fun. We didn't train, we climbed. There were a few guys in camp 4 that were taking things very seriously and they became semi-famous and advanced the sport. Now it seems everyone is so competitive and are very serious about training. I hope they are also having fun.

@@thenayancat8802true, but by focusing entirely on accessory and muscle training we are much more likely go get injured. The reason they say to focus on climbing is to improve things like technical ability, route reading, pump management, and just spend more time climbing. The endurance training he is talking about really reminds me of zone 2 work on my bike or when I was swimming in college as a long distance guy. Getting that mid to long range distance not loafing but focusing on technique/yards.
@HourRomanticist7 күн бұрын
That's exactly what it is. This is how Dave Macleod refers to endurance training in climbing as well. Zone 2, 120-140 or so just hanging on the wall all day.
@theoamvr7 күн бұрын
It's cool, it sounds similar to Dave MacLeod's endurance protocol at Dumbarton, as preparation for Rhapsody. I think his protocol was more endurance-oriented and longer than 10min though
@HourRomanticist7 күн бұрын
That's partially because Dave Macleod just has insane endurance. I've heard him recommend just handing on vertical walls for hours at a time, which does make some sense. If you think that walking all day, will make it easier to run, hanging all day, will make it easier to climb harder for longer. I think.
