augh,, the music when they go into the new tardis always gets me choked up - as well as other parts of this ost - murray gold's music has always moved me immensely, ever since i discovered doctor who around 11 years ago, it's so full of atmosphere and energy that truly becomes an important part of the show - i had missed his music in doctor who, and it returning with Donna and 10 (technically 14 in these) is even more surreal and meant so much to me beyond words :,)

Everyone assumes it's his mum, because he's young and she's old. But what does that matter to timelords? Wilf asked who she was, and the Doctor looked to the bride. The time lady was his wife.

22:00 I like it too Elliot. I reckon fans who dislike Hell Bent would be more forgiving and probably enjoy the natural ending of 12 and Clara’s relationship is Gallifrey just wasn’t involved… like at all.

The characterisation and relationship dynamics between the Doctor and Ruby was practically nonexistent. It’s not that 8 episodes isn’t enough; it’s just not there in the scripts. They’ve just jumped ahead to being best buddies, with no development, no conflict and no challenges to their relationship.

Massive let down for me. Easily my least favourite of new who. The 8x45 format does not work with the monster of the week formula. Chibnall was right to do a serialised story when he had less than 10 episodes to work with. People like to slate Clara's character development in 7B as being nothing more than a plot device. But 7B and 14 has the same amount of episodes and 11/Clara is much more of a fully formed dynamic than 15/Ruby. Moments like in Hide when Clara sees the Earth being destroyed ("But here we are, talking. So I am a ghost. To you, I'm a ghost. We're all ghosts to you. We must be nothing.") I can't seem to work out what the relationship between 15 and Ruby is supposed to be. And the baffling decision to skip 6 months at the start of their journey is very counterintuitive. It completely fails as a "season one" jumping on point. Exposition is quickly dumped in the first 15 minutes of space babies so hastily. Compare it to how it was masterfully conveyed across series 1 2005. The focus on "Gods" and "experimental" episodes is odd for a relaunch where you are trying to gain mass appeal and get the general idea of the show across. And then having the cliff-hanger to the finale being a reference to a 50 year old story, where they have to literally watch the episode on a TV to keep the audience in the loop, is hilarious. The only episodes I really liked were Church on Ruby Road, Boom, Rogue and Legend of Ruby Sunday. Space Babies was just silly - now I like silly sometimes, but not as a pilot. Devil's Chord should have played into the whole idea of musicals more, instead of being a poor attempt at it. 73 Yads started off great (and Millie was amazing in it), but the second half really drags it down and was where I lost all momentum for the series. Dot and Bubble I had no desire to watch (after already having a Ncuti-light episode). Rogue was a return to form, with a more traditional episode and a good chemistry between Ncuti and Jonathan. Empire of Death was just dumb - so many questions and stupid decisions.

Overall I really enjoyed season 1! Space Babies wasn't the strongest season opener for many reasons, but I think it will become a fun episode to rewatch! The Devil's Chord really surprised me and maestro exceeded my expectations as the villain of the story! Boom was incredible, probably one of my favourite episodes in a long time! 73 Yards really showcased millie gibson as the companion ruby sunday, and ncuti's performance at the end of Dot and Bubble was incredible! Rogue was a fun period episode and I loved seeing ruby living her bridgerton dream! 😂 The season finale wasn't perfect, but it was the best season finale I've seen since probably series 10! My main criticism for season 1 is I wish that it was longer! 😊😊

Rogue doesn't feel much like a "standard Doctor Who episode" to me. Even after five rewatches, it still comes across as a dull period romance with a silly aliens story tacked on as an afterthought. After Empire of Death, Rogue gets my vote as the weakest story of the RTD2 era so far, and I still can't fathom out why so many people seem to like it. At least Space Babies was a laugh!

I think it’s more that it felt closer to an average monster of the week episode. I enjoyed it enough on broadcast, but the Kylie Minogue dancing scene went on too long. And bizarrely, when Rogue and the Doctor dance together to cause outrage, there was barely any reaction from the party goers.

Seeing how loyal the Gallifreyan soldiers were to him in Hell Bent + his unorthodox methods and ruthlessness I wonder if the War Doctor was like Anakin Skywalker in some ways. More specifically, the Anakin from TCW

I say the original script for this story, by Gerry Davis is billions of times better and it features Voga the planet of gold but with human gold miners not alien Vogans who were terrible. In the original story the planet of gold is only featured in part 3 and the human gold miners have welsh names and also the planet of gold in the original storyline is unnamed and also the human villain Kellman is awesome too and in the original story Kellman is double crossing the human miners on the asteroid and intending to steal as much gold as he can.

I don't understand why everyone thinks seeing Capaldi is right! In the Christmas episode we learn he can't regenerate until the crack in the wall helps and then of course he regenerates I think seeing Capaldi ruined that story! (even though in the press we knew) btw I love PC as the Doctor!

"It’s never forgotten, Caecilius. Oh, time will pass. Men will move on, and stories will fade. But one day, Pompeii will be found again. In thousands of years. And everyone will remember you." Quoted by The Doctor to Caecilius as Caecilius, his family and Donna who mourn and weep while Caecilius and the Doctor talk while also watching Pompeii be covered up with volcanic ash.

I know this is a super old video but on Moffat’s era. I loved Doctor Who since I was 7 (I’m 18 now) and I loved most of modern Doctor Who and was obsessed with the it. Rewatching all these years later I very much still enjoy series 1-4 and the highs are absolutely brilliant. But the overall vision and tone doesn’t resonate as much with me now and I think if that’s all the modern show was it would be something where I still really like it for what it is but don’t think it’s as perfect as I did when I was young. Whereas series 5-10 I just bloody adore still. Has some downs (like the latter part of series 6) but overall it’s just so special to me and is really when it becomes the show I love and is the era that makes the show for me

i always wondered, why didnt the Time Lords just weaponise regeneration? Like here we see the Doctor blow up 2 Dalek attack scout ships AND a mother ship. And since Regereration can be unlimited (classic who we are told Rassilon and Omega limit others to 12 regenerations for their own control), just imagine Time Lords and Time Ladies stood regenerating over and over, blasting ships with their endless energy. And as for the whole "when they regenerate, they are unstable." Thats only the Doctor. We've seen the Master regenerate and be perfectly aware of who he is and how to fly a Tardis. We see The General change race AND gender and be fully aware (all be it racist and sexist about how being white and male isnt 'normal and right') So seems to just be a Doctor thing for slap stick humour.

I mostly enjoyed the story, but I do have quite a few issues with the way things were done. Ruby's mom being an "ordinary" (albeit with a very troubling teenage pregnancy and abusive home life background) person is something I'm completely on board with. And if the characters in the show did what fans do, and started wildly speculating without any explicit evidence, it could have worked beautifully. But having actual weird and mysterious things happen around her and Ruby completely torpedoes any credibility in the reveal. It makes it a cheat. I do have a couple of thoughts on why Sutekh cared so much. One is The TARDIS had gotten into his head and was manipulating him subtly to make him vulnerable. She wouldn't have not noticed him clinging onto her for god knows how long. So she played a 7th Doctor style long game with him. The other is, as Sutekh has become, to all intents and purposes, an actual God, The Doctor and Ruby's faith in the mystery and belief that her mom was someone with special significance could be what got under his skin. I think the latter was something RTD was getting at, but it's so clumsily executed and explained that it's not clear at all.

Controversially I put this on par with series 11 finale as Chibnall said how it was a first draft and not exactly what he wanted. What was RTD excuse? He has had enough time to write something better. I didn't watch the whole video as the dumping on Chibnall has just got old. Did anyone ask what was the point of Rose in the last 2 episodes? Plus a 13 year old child bearing arms when RTD stupidly said the sonic was too much like a gun. Just don't understand his logic

A reset resolution isn’t necessarily a problem, if there is a satisfying and logical lead up to it. I wish the Doctor had done something more ‘scientific’, for example examine Sutekh’s dust and find a way to alter it or imbue it with his regeneration energy.

Had the assumption that Ruby had learned her Mom's name in 2046... and just passed along the names/bios for UNIT to crunch. See if they can backtrack/link the details around 2004, see how they link. Once they have the name, her Mom's Social Media alone might have narrowed down where she lived, went to school, who her friends were/are...

Apologies for the failed attempt at brevity. Congratulations on 50-well-discussed episodes of Doctor Who! Always enjoy listening to you lads share your thoughts. For this episode, you largely hit all of the thoughts and opinions I had with the episode. Wish I had enjoyed the episode but I disliked most of the writing. The VFX, and performances were proper highlights, however I was very distracted by how flimsy the plot worked together. I was definitely left with many questions that I don't expect to get answers to, and am feeling less enthusiastic about the next season. Some sporadic points I wanted to share from listening to your show that may contribute to your thoughts about the whole season: Is this finale’s “resolution” how Russell undoes the Flux / brings back Gallifrey? Or is that a happy accident that I shouldn’t give him credit for? I wonder if this is meant to be Millie’s send-off because she isn’t the companion next season, or at least the primary one, so she won’t get a send-off down the line… much like Martha. I wonder if they are going to address who the Meep’s boss is next season, and/or bring back the Master from the gold tooth (I kinda hope not). Maybe Mrs. Flood will end up being the woman RTD chooses to have picked it up? But also... I don't really care? RTD spends too much time hyping things up, and if the takeaway from this storyline is that things are important because I make them important, why should I trust a future or already planted mystery box? Mrs. Flood's cryptic message at the end was laughable coming right off of Ncuti's explanation of why Ruby's mother was important. Never mind the snow and Carol of the Bells, or Maestro's lines. I really disliked how much Ruby cared about her biological (or “real Mom” as she annoyingly kept saying) mother because as someone with a large foster family, most kiddos do not have the level of interest in pursuing a relationship with their bio-parent. Carla is her real mom, and I actually felt bad for her several times when Ruby was so dismissive of her. I said it last week but I really hated the Memory Tardis because I am a non-UK fan and couldn’t watch that. Which like… isn’t the BBC targeting international fans now given that episodes from at midnight in the UK? Seems like they don’t have their priorities straight. Little bit left here… Ncuti not saying, “I Love You” back to Ruby was strange. It’s in-character for the Doctor, sure. But isn’t this the emotional one? The one really connected to his feelings? I thought we had moved past him being closed off. Lastly, Susan. I know fans say they shouldn’t bring her back because it’s been too long, and it should be saved for a special moment. I think with how much RTD has written about her in this season, they really should. Doctor Who isn’t “clean” in its logic or limits anymore (see: War and Shalka Doctor, the Timeless Child, Bi-generation, etc.). I think that at this point it would be a disservice to the show to never bring her back just for the sake of keeping things pure. Also you are not alone Elliot. Hell Bent was fantastic. :)

Given that the 6th Doctor's costume made a cameo appearance in this episode, and Sutekh was destroyed in the Vortex, perhaps it _wasn't_ merely an ordinary leash, but a Timeleash.

I love this theme so much. It's like the mirror of 11's theme. Where 11 was heading to what he thought was his end, 15 is looking to the horizon with acceptance of his trauma. New beginnings. The universe is his oyster. He's not running *away* from anything like 11, but running *towards* life.

I think Ruby’s adopted mom went to UNIT because the plot needed to get Mrs Flood into the story and have a reason to come back to her home (where I think we’ll find something happened). And I think Rose was in the episode either just to get Ruby’s mom to UNIT or to facilitate using 14’s TARDIS next episode.

One massive plot hole with Rose in this episode. She’s apparently just on work experience but yet when Sutekh appears around the Tardis she’s one of the “Vital personnel” who isn’t required to leave the room? 😂
