Great video. I have a question. I just bought brand new 2.73 axles for the front and rear. I took them out to Predator to have the ARB locker kits installed. I installed the rear first. Here's my video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJqVp5Khid6Keck. Once I got it installed and after my video, I noticed that my gear oil is being pumped out of the vent line and into the vent system. I was wondering if you had the same problem? I read a lot of blogs that said this was common with ARB's. And this is while they are NOT engaged. I also notice that the gear oil is making its way to my right rear gear hub. The level gets higher on the sight glass after driving. Most of the blogs said to increase the size of the vent system.

Thanks for this video, I helped me to lift mine! Curious though, why didn't you use spring compressors? I did and it was pretty straightforward (two videos). I also took the sway bar loose, which I may have missed on this video. Thanks again!

65/73 ftlbs could be different as some versions have different sizes nuts on top and bottom. I know mine has 5/16 top and 7/16 bottom - some use both 7/16 and some use 3/8 too.... This is just a guess. But if both top and bottom are the same size, most likely, they will use the same torque specs

Any updates on the Humvee? It looks like your highway cruising RPM is around 3,000-3,400 rpm? That seems like it's not going into overdrive.

Are the boots the same size for both types of ball joints?
@sshep7119 Жыл бұрын
When you don't have the weight available to compress the spring use a chain hoist. You have to get creative to rig it properly, but I just used a 2 ton chain hoist to compress the springs on my HMMWV when the body, drive train, and majority of the chassis was taken apart and it worked beautifully. I went around the bottom of the control arm right at the ball joint with the dead hook, and the body hook went above the shock pivot and to the opposite frame rail. I used a manual chain hoist this time, but the last time I had to do something similar I used an electric 2 ton hoist and it was all to easy. Just be careful not matter what you are doing, stored energy in a spring can mame or kill you. Use a small chain through the frame and a few coils, if something let's go unexpectedly the chain will restrain the spring. Be careful out there.

@LSXHumvee Жыл бұрын
I don't have a power steering unit but it uses a factory GM steering box so it should be pretty easy to source or you can send yours to redhead steering gear and have it rebuilt.

Any one else have the problem that when the lower arm is down the spring is still tight?
@LSXHumvee Жыл бұрын
When you disconnect the upper ball joint on the portal it should drop down and the spring should pretty much fall out. You also have to make sure the shock is disconnected at the top to allow the droop.
