[0:56] Take it easy, sparky. I'm neither a rocket scientist, nor Terrence Tao, but Maths is so powerful in this way, so long as the numbers of the math are not irrational, to varying degrees :-)

It is indisputable that 2 + 2 = 4 so long as 2 + 2 - 4 = 0. Otherwise, 2 + 2 can equal anything, including 5 :-)

Roger was not faced with such a binary option. He could have taken biology independently of the school via an external examination. Check out the big brain on, Roger :-)

I think the most enjoyable time to realize youre a math geek is 23. You have a lot in savings, youre in the prime of your career, youve developed different extra skills since youve graduated high school, like public speaking or languages..you have a tan or some muscle from the heavy labor youve been having to do the last few years. And then you find out its always been math, right there in your young prime. Youre in a good spot to leave everything behind to go pursue your dreams, while in this feeling of primeness or whatever. I decided to start my second mini career and live in a country i knew nothing about all the way around the world before doing that though. Being a marketing consultant was nice. I knew I had to pick up more life experience starting university. It may suck growing up near the poverty line, but so long as you can avoid the meth, babies, and jail...you can get one shot at it all.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:02 *🎓 Sumpter uses applied math to understand the world through stories from football, science, and life.* 02:48 *📊 Fisher pioneered powerful statistical methods but had problematic views on eugenics and smoking.* 11:28 *⚽ Statistics can measure player attitude and performance in football, with limitations.* 23:25 *🧪 Lotka used "unbalanced" equations to model exciting biological and social patterns.* 37:31 *🧩 But Lotka never found a grand theory. A key limitation was not knowing chaos theory.* 39:18 *🦋 Hamilton and Lorenz discovered chaos - small errors cause drastically different outcomes.* 47:54 *🚀 Hamilton left chaos for Apollo software, showing the need to eliminate errors in critical systems.* 50:00 *☯️ The yin-yang of randomness: control what matters, let go of the rest.* 52:03 *🧩 Complex patterns emerge from simple rules in cellular automata and tiny code tweeted graphics.* Made with HARPA AI

Reminds me of how in the book project Hail Mary, the alien Rocky can do math at an incredible speed, but says he is no smarter than a human. These long calculations are just procedure, not really any harder.

If anyone ever wanted proof that there is a strong genetic component to intelligence, tell them to have a gander at the Penroses. I majored in girls and f*cking around in college, and now I'm having to learn higher level maths on my own in a Quixotic attempt to understand general relativity in my dotage.

Ive got no chance of winning any medal but I can totally understand his thought process and paranoia. Sometimes when I approach a zebra crossing and someone's about to walk across I often think "sh!t what if I hit the accelerator now and I hit those people" so I then do a test slow down around 20m back, just in case I've got the pedals wrong. It's bizarre
@chandlergloyd423018 сағат бұрын
no, no they are not. Even though there is a trick to turn one into the other, its still harder because you have to do an extra step. Furthermore, it’s not a commonly known step.
