In this lecture, the second in the first year Linear Algebra 1 course, Andy Wathen address how to add, scale and, crucially, how to multiply matrices.
You can watch many other student lectures via our main Student Lectures playlist (also check out specific student lectures playlists): • Oxford Mathematics Stu...
All first and second year lectures are followed by tutorials where students meet their tutor to go through the lecture and associated problem sheet and to talk and think more about the maths. Third and fourth year lectures are followed by classes.

I’m not sure if its Los Gatos in particular or something more global like California, or as extension Oxford thats responsible for the virtue involved in the responsibility that then ensues of installing this thing in the entire neighborhood. This iswhat my question begs: was there a distinct competition responsible for designating AT&T in particular for this job. Its not special, and any company of this ‘cloud’ nature: namely one of internet technology is involved in this type of thing. This is not known to me, so youre the one explaining why youre on my property being offensive. That is to who in particular? Someone in the Los Gatos government. Maybe california…

There’s questions regarding the relationship between this computational cost And the literal cost of a single unit of Fibre Optic glass… Surely not the same thing. And the problem here is that the first is ill-defined: especially in a natural context, where there exist nonmathematical questions about what costs what? And what the corresponding values, then, are.

This would be the time to explain in lethargically radiative detail: Why multiplication and addition (of reals: understood as the same as complex numbers) will have the same unit of computational cost in a scheme of matrix arithmetic. In a turing machine (or otherwise) these are quite not the same thing I’m afraid, in the most explicit sense, Andy: this is something you would have marked as incorrect. You’re not wrong about your markings and their identity as one of a gift, But I can assure you you don’t actually understand what an answer to this question would manifest as….
