My son was like yours when he was 4-11 yo.. he had 2 castles (by Playmobil) that he loved to play with nearly every day.. he and I played battles 4-5 times a week.. and he played on his own... But he is an only child so I was his playmate.. we had so much fun... He loved his Playmobil knights so much... After he grew out of it we packed everything away so he can play with his kids one day... I would highly recommend even just the Playmobil knights if they still sell them...each set comes with 4-5 guys, a variety of weapons and shields, flags, color of uniforms... So you can really have different kingdoms fight each other.. I know you like wooden toys, but like Legos, Playmobil is a high quality brand.. my son never lost or broke any pieces .. he took very good care of his figures.. Another knights we had we Schleich - German company that makes beautiful animals also made hand painted knights on foot and on horseback.. we had maybe 8 or 10 knights.. they were amazing and we would have special small battles with them.. such strong rubber figures.. We put them away too.. Anyway just some recommendations from one battle loving kid to another..

I've always enjoyed seeing what you get for your kids for Christmas! We are a huge magnetic tile family. Our son loves playing with them. If you are looking for some that are aesthetically pleasing but also great quality with very strong magnets, I recommend Connetix. It's an Australian company, and they make beautiful magnetic tiles! I especially enjoy their pastel rainbow magnetic tiles.
