No different than saying 18th century music is better than 19th century. It’s a style, not an artistic superiority.

Some of the images do have a clipart feel to them; more heavily stylized than the typical illustrations for that period.

There is a certain look about them which seems very 1800s. If I saw it and wasn't told the date, the artwork might make me guess 19th Century. It's not worse than much older illuminations. In my layman's opinion. Just different.

I love to find a manuscript in carolingian miniscule. I feel like I and my very poor latin might actually have a chance to read it! 😂 The second side of the leaf is from Isaiah chapters 40 and 41. Some of my favorite passages.😊

Painting cleanings start at $1,000 not sure its worth it. Not a huge amount of interest in portrait paintings. Frame is 19th century I suspect painting is 19th century too. Basically, a reproduction.

I had no clue they were that old
