There is absolutely no reason it should take that long. 10 years for all three max is reasonable. Other countries do it, why can't we??????

As an outsider, the La Brea option seems best due to the travel times and better cost and construction timelines.

As another long-term resident of the Fairfax area, I disagree with your framing of a santa monica line being more realistic than a Beverly/3rd line for future junctions/extensions. The Beverly corridor is much farther from any existing lines and serves several high-ridership areas with constraints on roadway or parking capacity. You already mentioned larchmont, one of the most parking-constrained commercial districts in the city, but a “central corridor along Beverly could also detour slightly to hit the Melrose and 3rd shopping districts, while serving the Grove and Cedars-Sinai. If anything the absence of a Beverly subway is one of the biggest gaps on Metros expansion map

Hi, @nandert! Although I am not an Angeleno I would like leave the following comment that you might want to include in your public comment to the Metro Transit Authority board. My concern is about the length of platforms. Each platform appears to be one block long, which fits two LRV articulated trolleys. Doesn't the regional connector tunnel have platforms that accommodate trainsets of 3 trolleys for the A and E trains? Likewise the platforms on the K line extension should be the same length. This would be a more economically beneficial use for the enormous amount of money and effort to be spent to build the long station boxes than the extra-long crossovers are. Thank you. Edward M. New Orleans, LA.

So in part of the video it mentions funding from property value. If the property values drop mid construction then does that funding drop?

As a Koreatown resident that's off the Purple-D line, I'm excited! If I'm still living in koreatown when it's done, is another question. That said, there is population density that off the Purple-D line and this opens routes.

I'm not a resident and not familiar with the project, but this seems like an excessive amount of tunneling for what is a moderately dense area at best? Why can't you surface some sections of this line running concurrent with roads? Viaducts and elevated stations above the commercial arterials can be very effective, quicker to build and a heck of a lot cheaper than bored tunnels and tunnel station boxes. The costs for such a short line are insane to not consider some daylighting where feasible. I get the desire to have underground metros 24/7, but sometimes above ground can offer similar levels of service while helping reduce both cost and time to build. Just a thought.

Crossovers allow for continued services while a train is stopped for first responders to attend to the violent injury that will occur. Also you should have added all the level 1 and 2 trauma centers on the maps so that people know how fast they can survive the decision to use METRO

I hate the idea of an EIFD. Borrowing against the increases to property taxes through increased property values around the line. A guarantee that folks who could benefit most from - and would be most likely to use - transit, get priced out of the area it will serve. Gross.

Most of these academics are full of it. A lot of the costs can be contained by spending more on solid design and engineering. Doing the work upfront saves more $$$ in the long run.

what if the hybrid alignment was built with provisions for junctions in certain places to allow lines to be rerouted in the future to be more direct when more lines are built in the area. Idk how to clearly explain this without drawing lines on maps

1. The San Vincente/Fairfax alignment should be built for a better network and a better city. However I would suggest the line towards Hollywood Bowl use a Fountain alignment instead with an infill station at Sunset/Gardner utilising old streetcar geometry. 2. This should have been operated as two lines with a large interchange at San Vicente/Santa Monica, utilising Metro property. As there would be HUGE crowds using that station. 3. They should build the extension to Midtown then the extension to Hollywood Bowl (swapping phases 2 & 3), which gives more time to figure out the middle section.

Hey Nandert. Great video. We appreciate your support and smart questions about this project. About the crossovers: K Line Northern Extension will have transfers to both the B and D Line subway, which historically has been our rail line with the most ridership. As the subway is extended and runs more frequently, we think that ridership will increase. We want the K Line extension to have as much capacity as possible. These crossovers would allow us to maintain 10-minute frequencies even if there’s maintenance or a service issue. We will be looking at cost and value engineering as we get deeper into design. We thought it best to begin with a project that provides the absolute best rider experience. At this point, we’re only 15 percent into the design of the three routes under study. We’ll learn more as the designs evolve and we can make decisions later that impact cost. Thanks again for the vid. Keep it up.

Hey, great video, I don't really know anything about this project but can someone tell me why they arent doing full heavy rail metro here? seems like a fully tunnelled light rail is the worst of both options in being both very expensive, time consuming but also not all that high capacity or high speed as a metro could be? thanks

Could the numerous high speed crossovers ever be used for a potential express service to LAX that would bypass local trains on the opposite side?
@TheLIRRFrenchie...
@TheLIRRFrenchie... 4 күн бұрын
Lol i noticed all the crossovers before you said something. Metro should also consider future maintenance because crossovers wear faster than running rail. Those could potentially become slow zones in the future deoending on funding snd keeping the system in a good state of repair. Even here in nyc, the mta has removed many crossovers over the decades.

A critical benefit of extra crossovers: easy 24/7 service without shortening overnight maintenance windows. The Washington Metro’s dearth of crossovers is among the biggest reasons for its poor track conditions and challenges with running late/early/24-hour services regularly. More crossovers means more capacity for single-track operations during evening track and electrical inspection times. So from a long-game perspective, they’re probably worth including now so that 24/7 service to LAX will be feasible without creating a maintenance nightmare after opening. Fair point that the crossovers could be made shorter, but perhaps more cut & cover/trench construction would help with prices as well?

I'm not in LA or California at all, but what would be involved in getting the train above ground and right down the median of Highland Avenue starting either just north of or a couple blocks north of Hollywood/Highland station? If they could deliver a Hollywood Bowl station cheaper and faster that way it would also set them up to stay above ground along the US-101 median into the Valley.

Highland is NARROW and an elevated train over a fault line is worse than one underground. Hollywood Bowl has an EXTENSIVE system of park and ride shuttle buses to get to and from the bowl.
