Very interesting, it’s a wonder that the UK still has any houses from that time period then I guess. I’m guessing that the candles eventually evolved into lightbulbs because of safety and festive new colors

They had ornaments to hold miniature tapers for the task, but often people used tapers meant more wreaths or butler torches & they were too strong.

Real candles on trees are still common here in Denmark, you have to pay attention to them and use proper holders so we usually use electric most of the time and only light the real ones when we are close to the tree during Christmas eve.

There was a guy that wondered why the birds would sing an hour before sunrise. So he played music to his corn. The corn grew to be 15 feet tall. In case you are wondering, corn normally grows to only about haft that.

For folks who thought it was about boxing, there's an alternative: On December 25th in the areas near Cuzco in Peru, the locals partake in a custom called Takanakuy, a Quechuan (Incan) custom where everyone gets into a massive fight in order to resolve grievances from the previous year. Afterwards, they declare the slate wiped clean and all get drunk together.

The origins in Christmas lights is interesting. And I remember the change from regular bulbs vs the LED lights that use less electricity and less hot. So an advancement in the right direction has taken place in our life times. We had salmon this year, as our oven is still out of commission. When it worked, we usually had turkey.

i uuuhm, hate to say this, but open fire candles on the tree is still very common, more so than not, in danish households, AND we dance around the tree as well, with the candles lit. ofcourse there's always a fire extinquisher nearby, but yea, thats still a thing here. EDIT: i should properbly add, that at no time is the tree not being watched, while there's lit candles.

The head actually have some of the more expensive cuts of meat like the tongue and cheeks. The ear is also a favourite for children because it's crunchy. Naturally, serving boats head became put of fashion as time went on but that's more due to economy since not many family have the facilities to prepare it in urban areas and the price of meat increase.

I personally don't like glueing the lip skin to the mouth part bc whenever I do, it messes up the mouth rig and I have to start over (I've watched tutorials, it doesn't help). I prefer to rig the lip skin and the mouth part separately. It does take longer, but it looks the same at the end🤷‍♀️

Merry Christmas! We had a similar tradition when we were growing up. Our parents would hide a pickle and the first kid to find it got to open the first present. We use real pickles as the local stores sell them in single serving plastic wrapped ones lol. We also had some old Christmas ornaments that were just candle holders. We never lit them, but it was nice to see. We are going to eat Sheppard's Pie, green-bean casserole and a Hobbit's breakfast (i got the recipe for the special Deny's scrambler from when lord of the rings was released).

All the more reason to assert that The Nightmare Before Christmas is both a Halloween AND Christmas story, as far as I'm concerned. Also explains a line from (I believe it's) the song "Walking in a Winter Wonderland" mentioning telling ghost stories or something along those lines! Edit: "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" is the song I was thinking of!
