I know this is an old video, but I just had to comment. This is the best true beginner video I've seen. So many 'beginner' videos out there make too many assumptions, or don't show you what the artist is doing outside of applying the paint. Thanks so much for really helping a beginner get started.

Just primed my first Reaper Miniature. Hat de same problem with the paint not sticking to it with Citadel Abbadon Black... so i found out you have to wash them in soap water or keep them in there for a short time and then wash them off with water. Apparently there is a release agent from the molding process that needs to go before you paint them... after that all my paints behaved normal :D

I agree. Washing first is a must for the Reaper Models.

Hey, I know this video is 7 years old, but I'm brand new to Black Plague, and your video is the best how-to I've found so far. So my main question is this: Are moves and actions not the same thing? Around 8:20, you move 2 spaces into a room and then you roll 3 more times to kill the walker next to the vault entrance, and it was all with the same character. I thought each player started with 3 actions/moves, either or. No?
@PaintMiniSchool
@PaintMiniSchool 3 ай бұрын
Moving normally cost one action per move. However with Ann a special rule allowed her to move two spaces and attack for free as one action.leaving her with 2 normal attack actions. Hope that helps

Another great video! This is info I needed, I bought some Army paints but a friend told me reaper was better. Going to stick with the Army and give them a try tomorrow
@PaintMiniSchool
@PaintMiniSchool Жыл бұрын
thanks for the comment. Yeah, Army painter is ok. They are a decent starter paint. They shine when you basecoat with another brand that has better coverage and use the Army painter for layering, glazing, washing. Even reaper has issues with coverage with the basecoat ( as many brands) you either have to find what you like for basecoats or just get used to the fact of apply 2-3 layers on the basecoat to get the coverage and effect you're looking for. Happy Painting!

@@PaintMiniSchool Yea its a great game, just started playing last week and its amazing! Your playthrough of it really helped me understand the game, it is quite complicated when first opening up the instructions. I have the base game plus what lies ahead and killer within expansions which add four scenarios each based upon episodes of season 2 and 3 of the show. I highly recommend buying these and replaying it!

How long should you wait between coats or starting a wash? Thanks for the video
@PaintMiniSchool
@PaintMiniSchool 2 жыл бұрын
Just wait till the paint is dry before applying a wash. Pretty much wait till any coat is dry is the general rule of thumb... some washes take longer to dry. I've noticed the Army painter washes sometimes look better different/ better after an all night cure, I think it has some kind of varnish in it... happy painting.

@@PaintMiniSchool: I went ahead and got these kits, Core Skills and Layer Up. I used to paint the old lead, then pewter, miniatures with the Testors' enamel based paints in the 80's. What a world of difference acrylic based paints make. These two kits definitely are whet they said they are: a great way to learn, or I my case, relearn to paint miniatures. The instruction are good, but seeing the techniques used in real time in your and others' videos is more useful. The only quibble I have is the cases are now make cheaply. The cases work for now, but will have to be replaced eventually as I acquire more paints and brushes. I may never be as good of a painting as you, but I can paint the minis for use in my games, which is good enough for my friends and me.

I have been trying to get the washing done but no matter how much I water the black down it just paints it a faint black and looks muddy. are there any other tips I'm missing
@PaintMiniSchool
@PaintMiniSchool 3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like it's working? The goal of a wash is to run down into the crevices. It will also stain the base coat and somewhat appear muddy, especially black. Try only applying the wash in select areas of the crevices instead off an all over the model application.

Great video & glad to find this after a many years break from miniature painting. After seeing some of the other tutorial videos (like Goobertown Hobbies) & your videos, it seems that the metallic paint from the kit is best used not as a base layer but dry brush/highlights due to the thin paint. Keep up the great work!

I tip I heard for reaper bones minis was to base the whole mini in black craft paint thinned down just a little. Because you don’t prime the model and the finish on the plastic a lot of paints have trouble sticking to the model. I will tell you I’ve done this and it works

Did you mix mountain stone with desert sand for that last dry brush or was it just desert sand?

I believe it was a mix. You can start there and if it's not bright enough for you..you can then keep adding highlight to the mix until you get the desired effect. Remember it's always brighter until it dries.
