I'm one of those people who doesn't see the point in having that much power on a road car, but I still want one. I'm just so impressed with what Hyundai have done with it

I sort of am too and I want one with every fibre of my being 😂👍

Love mine, fully agree. It's ahead of it's time and many aren't ready for it on paper, but everyone I take along gets out with a big smile. This is my fourth ev but it's the first that replaced a gasoline driver's car and that doesn't leave me feeling empty inside like something is missing... Now Hyundai N has a world rally champion car, and you can really tell when driving the 5N that a team of driving enthusiast with motorsport experience have worked on the 5 N development. Thanks Hyundai N for daring to sell this!

Interesting video.... I agree with the points raised. Although I can understand how many thousands will not get their heads around a BEV being fun, fast, practical and cheap to maintain... They will just dismiss it in the same way my step father (a Doctor) insisted motorcycles were lethal..! Until he passed his bike test at 58yrs old and has never looked back since! In short... Don't believe Jim or myself.... Drive one and make your own option!

Cheers Jimbo totally agree with you some people are so stuck with their opinions most of who have never driven an electric car most are not better or worst just different until the 5N which has the ability to make an electric future something we can look forward to with a big smile just think how far electric cars have come in 16 years( orig tesl a roadster ) and now

Lovely review Jim and an honest one as always. I run a V6 fun car and we daily an EV. Nothing so far within my pay grade has caught my attention. However, this looks like it could be a game changer and a direction that other manufacturers will surely consider. Petrol for now but let's see what the future holds.

@DefinitelyNotAGuru I have a question Jim. What does it cost on average to service an EV? Also how regularly do they need servicing?
@DefinitelyNotAGuru6 күн бұрын
It varies a lot between brands. On my Tesla it’s a new air filter after 50k at about £100 I think. It does vary massively though.

Good thoughts. Even though an EV doesn't make sense for me at the moment its good to see one where fun and performance is forefront. I have never seen any EV being punted along briskly - and it feels sort of wrong overtaking Teslas and MG's doing 55mph in the 70. Im actually looking forward to having one of these come past me!

Hello Jim, it probably wouldn't take much work to update teh software in any EV with paddles to do the same virtual gear box and add sound files for your favorite car. I know it copies a manual gearbox going up in that you have to change up to go faster, but will it also stall if you don't change down as you slow down and then try to acelerate? that would be interesting.

No; it’s idiot proof which is probably why I got on with it so well 😂

It's just a tad too much for me new/leased. I would happily buy a used 2/2.5yr old one if they were available. My worry is the depreciation with something, although admired, it's still kinda niche and missing heritage like say M division. I can see other manufacturers following suit soon too and them producing their own faux gearboxes/audibles withing a tight EV chassis
@DefinitelyNotAGuru6 күн бұрын
Funniliy enough it's designed by the old boss of M division I believe. Let's hope this one starts a trend.

@DefinitelyNotAGuru With Bierman at the helm, the I5N is indeed almost a dynamic EV cousin of the X3M/M2. Just saying that Hyundai / Korean cars are still very much perceived the same way as Skoda's were. What's your gut feel on where these will be at price wise for a 3yr old example? I wonder how that matte paint will hold out also too (that perf blue is fantastic)?
@DefinitelyNotAGuru6 күн бұрын
Yeah I wonder about the paint too but it would be a must for me - the ones with gloss paint just don’t look as good to me. It’s hard to say but as it’s an EV I have to feel there will be a facelift with more range at some stage that will mean this one takes a hit down the road. It would be a lease car for me. It does have the potential to be a modern classic at some stage though - if that will even be a thing in future!

Great video mate, like you I class myself as a petrol head.. owned and driven the faster/ louder Audi, BMW and Mercedes models since I could afford them (and if I’m being honest even when I couldn’t afford them 🤦♂️). I now own 2 Tesla’s and absolutely love them BUT that car is the next level of EV motoring and offers something different again!! I’m sure Elon watches your channel so hopefully there will be software update soon that gives us the option to turn on the sound effects and simulated gear changes 🤞😂

I read a article of a Ionic 5 driver having their 40k car written off due to the battery being damaged, after mouting a curb..... are the batteries not protected
@DefinitelyNotAGuru7 күн бұрын
Insurers will write off an EV if there is any visible damage to a battery pack even though they are usually 100% fine. Video on this coming soon…

This says more about the skilled people we don't yet have in the UK rather than the tech. It will take years for garage owners to realise they must train their staff up to be able to disconnect a battery and check it over.

They just need to make them affordable.

All new cars cost more now, regardless of what fuel type they are and EV’s generally cost no more than their fuel equivalent. The Dacia Spring EV costs from just £15k new. Also, currently used EV’s are cheaper due to their higher depreciation.

I lease an EV as a company car and back in 2022 I looked at an Ionic 5 but it was too expensive at the time (despite the tax breaks currently). I’m due to change early next year and checked the lease price and it’s £100 cheaper a month than it was 2 years ago. Very tempted to get one next year. Appreciate this top of the range is expensive, but you’re getting super car performance for that and that will never be cheap. The base version however is no more than any petrol/Hybrid SUV now.

Not impressed with the idea of adding artificial engine sounds to an EV - bad enough with high power ICE vehicles. Yes, some level of artificial sound for safety, or on a track, but not for built up areas as loud vehicle noise is anti social.
@DefinitelyNotAGuru7 күн бұрын
You can turn it off, inside, outside, or for both. Infact its default position is off.

@@DefinitelyNotAGuru I think you misunderstand my position. It probably is a great car just unnecessary, even superfluous in a World where car manufacturers are struggling to sell the idea of EVs to the general public and are suffering for it. The ability to go round the Nurburgring in under 8 minutes is not going to help the cause, so yes, ultimately a pointless car. Car manufacturers need to produce cars that people want and can afford, not ones they just aspire to.
