I have to point out they in my sls training there was never a mention they singing needs to be the same volume as your speech. I think sls doesn't really dictate the volume of the singing, just that it should be as comfortable and effortless as speaking.
@LizBills

@@geromino2007 yes it should be comfortable and effortless like speech! And just like speech the volume of the voice can change too…loud medium or soft depending on what’s being communicated.

@@LizBills Dear Liz, I watched your video twice, which I never usually do. I love the way you laid out the problem, you express yourself with great energy, charisma, and everything is so clear and well explained 🤗 As far as I'm concerned, I've had pain in both my shoulders for 10 years and burning sensations. I've done every possible investigation and the medical profession has found nothing wrong. I am now completely convinced that it is neuroplastic pain / TMS. My problem is that I have to go through drug withdrawal (opioids and benzodiazepines). And I'm afraid of the physical effects of withdrawal (including more pain), although I know that fear is a fuel for pain. I understand from listening to you that you haven't taken any medication ?

Thank you so much for this video. I feel so validated. I went to multiple ENT and the ER multiple times for chronic sore throat and hoarseness. Everyone tried to write me off with Gerd. I was diagnosed with Gerd, but i knew what i was experiencing was not related to the Gerd. I would have no gerd symptoms but constantly have sore throats after speaking or singing. I finally got a real diagnosis from my last ENT, who actually looked at my vocal chords. For so long, I felt crazy because of what i was experiencing. Thank you for sharing your experience.

"we start thinking of singing as something dangerous" hit the nail on the head for me. I've been struggling with issues with my singing voice for a few months, and finally have the diagnosis of muscular tension dysphonia and am getting a referral to voice therapy, but it's crushing my soul to not be able to sing normally.

This is lovely. I am an SLP undergrad, as well as a singer for more than 20 years. I have been working on tension for a long time- I have POTS, EDS and was undiagnosed Autistic for 36 years. My mentor for voice is Mary McDonald Klimek, one of the co-creators of the Estill Method and I was referred to her by Hadas Golan at Boston Medical Center. You're right, Boston is wonderful for voice disorders. Mary has taught me so much and helped me, and I have to say this video is right up there with your information! You have a healing spirit. Thank you.

Hey! I had a cough about 3 months ago that really took it out of me and strained my voice. The first time I sung after this I suffered with something I never felt before and it was that my voice went really croaky and and tight and I had to stop singing mid show. I rested for a couple weeks and since then I’ve sung fine at 90% of my shows but occasionally I get the symptoms again and my voice gets all tight and I have to really focus and relax to get it to release. Is this what you experienced? (Note, I went to an ENT. And I have no noduels or growths, only thing they mentioned was that I’m not lengthening the chords as much as I should but said it just looks like a little fatigue)

I haven't been diagnosed, but I think I have this since there's nothing wrong with my larynx or vocal cords. I'm taking medicine for anxiety, and it helps a little, but sometimes my voice is shaky. I've found the massages help me a lot.
@LizBills
@LizBills Ай бұрын
@@claudiavela6990 anxiety can definitely manifest physically in the voice. I would go to another ent and suggest MTD. Speech therapy, vocal lessons, talk therapy can help you to heal. It doesn’t have to be talk therapy it could be somatic work or EMDR or hypnosis or acupuncture. Whatever floats your boat.

Thank you for light at the end of a tunnel 🎉, I am a singer, but find it very difficult to sing after recent thyroid surgery and being diagnosed with MTD, I have gone to a speech therapist (who wasn’t a singer) who wanted to do electrical stimulation on my throat, it was very uncomfortable and I expressed this, she stated there was nothing else she could do. She gave me worksheets to fend for myself and discharged me from therapy. Right now the lessons are a struggle 😅 but I’ll get through it, with daily practice . Again thank you. 😊
