2025: H.264 is supported on windows version now at least, but10 bit, XAVC HS 5K isn’t. But XACS S 4k is, but not if you use 10bit. Currently I'm using Resolve, I might upgrade to Studio someday, it's one time payment. But all colour correction tools and all tools I need and most others need are free. But I never managed to learn blender properly yet to use it at the same level. But I think I sohuld try it. The software was quite buggy, or flawed before, making audio out of sync, but I forgot how one had to do it to not have this issue. But I should take a look at it again. But Resolve has been problem free on my powerful pc, but blender crashes going through the menus, but eventually it worked, managed to add Video Editing, Weird it wasn't there by default. It was many years ago.For some reason XACS S 4k MP4 file plays super choppy. while in Resolve it's super smooth. So 2025 Impressions are it's useless currently for me. I've not tried it in Mint 22 yet. Nor other Distros. Mint 22 doesn't even have an Internet connection on the vm, no idea why. @@LinuxCreative I'm convinced to go back to Jack for now as it is important to have the lowest latency possible when playing MIDI keyboard. I don't mind the inconvenience. I'm on Ubuntu 24 which has a generic kernel they claim is as good as the old low latency one. This OS allows me to disable pipewire and go back to Jackd2 with QjacjCTL. But I was thinking of going back to Jammy Jellyfish with the low latency kernel (and also Studio Controls) to be on the safe side. What do you think? Would I get lower latency by going back to 22? Also, do you think that adjusting the thermal management option from 'Quiet' to 'Ultra Performance' in my Dell laptop's UEFI would lower latency any?
@LinuxCreative
@LinuxCreative 7 күн бұрын
@matthammond1737 you won't gain anything from the low latency kernel. The kernel with preempt module should give you the same results. You might get slightly better performance out of JACK still, but I think Pipewire can be tweaked to perform better. I just haven't delved into that yet. Performance mode for your CPU governor is always recommended to avoid any xruns at low rt audio latency settings.

I'm incredibly new to Linux (installed Fedora 41 about 5 days ago) but starting with GNOME, I had a cursor stutter that I couldn't pinpoint or fix with Wayland from the beginning. Switched to Gnome X11 and it was mostly gone, but still noticed an occasional stutter or lag with the cursor, along with very subtle stutter amid typing sometimes, and also when shifting videos. It was really irking me, so I tried KDE Plasma.. and they all went away. I still like some of the simplicity of GNOME, but those drawbacks I encountered were just plain bad (and of course, I did all sorts of updates, checked drivers, etc. before moving on.). I'm surprised at seeing so many videos expressing wariness and warnings. Hoping KDE doesn't start crashing on me though.

I have used Plasma almost exclusively for the past few years and have had very few problems. This video is mostly entertainment, and drawn from MANY comments I got on my previous KDE Plasma video, which was created in 2015. KDE Plasma is, in my opinion, the most stable and full-featured desktop environment for Linux right now. I recommend either KDE Plasma or Xfce to new users over Gnome. Gnome has been frustrating for quite some time.

I've tried moving from Windows to Linux (tried both Linux Mint and Ubuntu Studio). My biggest issue is trying to get my Windows VSTs working (notably Arturia V Collection and IK T-Racks and MixBox). I couldn't get yabridge to work at all on Linux Mint as the steps documented online to set it up that I found have steps in them that fail. I had better luck with Ubuntu Studio, and was able to get the VSTs to scan in Reaper, but trying to add them to a project fails, as Arturia plugins now "phone home" via the Arturia Software Center, which is a Windows application - which Reaper tries to run as a native program. All of the tutorial videos always start with a Linux system with every dependency in place already. What I'd like to see is a video effectively starting with an "out of the box" distro and then going through the setup step by step. Ideally, Ubuntu Studio should have all this stuff installed and configured as part of the distro. I'm not scared of the command line, but I get the feeling the goalposts get moved too often to make it viable. The only aspect that was easy for me was setting up Reaper. As an existing Reaper user, installing the native version was very easy. Until my plugins and softsynths exist natively on Linux, I'm stuck on Windows, which is really disappointing, as Windows gets worse with every update.

@@icbfan7 Hi there! Thanks for watching. The short answer is yes! I often use the layout workspace to craft a "2D" animation using grease pencil or the like, then reference this scene in a scene strip in the VSE. This is how I create motion graphics (lines, circles, text, etc) to highlight things in my video edits. I should probably detail this workflow in a future video. Hopefully this helps!

Thanks for watching! I have stopped putting music in most of my videos because errant copyright claims seem to be a problem on KZbin. Every now and again I'll include an unfinished track in the background.

I'll be watching this one more than once. Thank you! I'm not quite beginner on Blender, but brand new on Blender video editing, trying to link about two decades of camera video clips together into longer pieces. Your tips are very different from the first two videos that I watched, and some of them are more to the point for what I'm trying to do.

I've installed AV Linux. I want to record demo band stuff like guitar, bass, vocals, and use a drum machine like Hydrogen. Probably no more than 7 track. Is there any difference between Ardour and QTractor? I guess the only thing to consider is that my laptop is a 2009 HP Probook 4510s - Intel Celeron Dual Core, 4GB RAM.

Both are great options. I personally have more experience with Ardour and find it to be really stable for multi-tracking scenarios like you mention. Thanks for chiming in!

Please do a detailed Yabridge video. I have heard there are issues with licensing, ilok, etc. I use acustica and uad a lot. Thanks!
