I'll be watching this one more than once. Thank you! I'm not quite beginner on Blender, but brand new on Blender video editing, trying to link about two decades of camera video clips together into longer pieces. Your tips are very different from the first two videos that I watched, and some of them are more to the point for what I'm trying to do.

Love it for basic video editing and I’m trying to use it for all my video editing, so these are some great tips on my quest. Main issue I still have is incorporating motion graphics in the video (for example an overlay) with any realistic rendering speed. I can do these things with premiere/after effects really fast, so I’m sure there’s a way…exploration continues. Thanks. 🖤🤙🏽 🎥

@@ItsWesSmithYo I typically use scene strips for that and set them to display "material" preview. It can be pretty resource intensive though (realtime rendering a 3D scene vs a 2D comp in Adobe).

Would be cool to see a more complex example. I would like to make a shortfilm with some VFX. While there are a lot of tutorials for VFX and compositing, I couldn't find any that show the workflow in the Blender sequencer. How do I get multiple VFX compositions into the sequencer without rendering them into a file and import them.

@maxmusterspace60374 күн бұрын
@LinuxCreative Ah ok. Need to try that. thx.
@maxmusterspace60374 күн бұрын
@ Hmm, that didn’t work at all. I’m probably doing something very wrong here, and I’m not sure how this is supposed to work. Here’s my situation: I have Scene A with a movie on the sequencer timeline. I cut the movie twice, so now I have three separate clips. I want to edit one of these clips using nodes-for example, adding a greenscreen effect and a new background clip. Now my problem: Do I need to export that raw clip, create a new Scene B, and reimport it there to make the edits? That’s not what I want. I’d prefer to render everything only once instead of rendering small clips, reimporting them, and then rendering again. I can’t figure out how to take just a single clip, create a new scene to edit it, and have it stay linked to Scene A. Sure, I could import the raw footage into Scene B, but then I’d have to cut the movie twice, which isn’t an efficient workflow either. After experimenting a bit, I tried adding Scene B into Scene A. However, the strip stayed grey with no output at all. I tested both the Render Layer input (default) and the Movie Input Node. The Movie Input Node displayed something in the preview, but nothing showed up in Scene A. To clarify my idea: I want to have one "main" scene (Scene A) where the final cut is assembled. Then I want to use multiple smaller scenes to handle individual clips and composites, which are combined into Scene A-without needing to reimport or re-render. This way, I can quickly make edits or changes to the smaller scenes without having to rerender everything multiple times.
@maxmusterspace60373 күн бұрын
I figured it out. Apperently I need to import the footage into blender first. Just using the file browser to drag and drop the footage into the timeline is different from importing it via the movie clip editor.
@LinuxCreative3 күн бұрын
@maxmusterspace6037 correct! I have created a plugin that sets up a compositor scene from any movie strip in the VSE to simplify this workflow and retain any audio track.
@thelearningmachine57403 ай бұрын
I tried using blender for video editing, but i didn't like how it detaches the audio from the clip, I didn't like having to select both the video and audio tracks to move them around. Has anything changed regarding that, or was I doing it wrong?🤔 I only go there for minor animation or designing. Thank you for this video, it's great!
@LinuxCreative3 ай бұрын
This is still how it behaves. I think there might be an add on that fixes this: maybe Power Sequencer? If not there should be and maybe I'll work on it! I should do a deep dive on my editing process. There's just so much I want to share!

For tip #6, Pin Scene....I'm trying to understand the usage of the Layout tab in conjunction with the Video Editor? Why are you using the Layout tab? Can the 3D space be used/referenced in the Video Editor somehow? Or vice versa?
@LinuxCreativeАй бұрын
@@icbfan7 Hi there! Thanks for watching. The short answer is yes! I often use the layout workspace to craft a "2D" animation using grease pencil or the like, then reference this scene in a scene strip in the VSE. This is how I create motion graphics (lines, circles, text, etc) to highlight things in my video edits. I should probably detail this workflow in a future video. Hopefully this helps!

its unfortunate that seemingly no addon devs think this is worth adding to, its a nice simple editor but it lacks some basic features, like for example, no support for a video with transparency, it just doesn't read the transparent channel and renders it as black
@LinuxCreative2 ай бұрын
It's unfortunate that there hasn't been more progress there, but it's been my experience that the core Blender team has always been more interested in 3D features, and video editing is kind of second class.

@@LinuxCreative Thank you, I just tried it. The blend setup is really nice as you have it, very workable. The only problem is that Blender doesn't playback properly. On my laptop, the 1080p h.264 8bit file plays back at 3 fps. The file plays back properly (even without hardware acceleration) on Openshot, Shotcut and Kdenlive.

I believe blender requires that you enable proxies and memory limits / prefetching frames instead of providing reasonable defaults. I believe these are all available in preferences, but can't quite remember and I'm away from my computer.
