note: you don't need to copy the iso files to the ventoy host usb drive, you can access your computer's local drive through it, it also makes for a much faster connection since the typical slow usb flash drive speed is not even comparable to a sata or nvme connection. of course this would be impractical if you plan to format the whole drive the isos are located on, but it's perfect for livecd mode. there might be a way to add persistent storage for each of their livecd modes as well. i have been looking for a way to boot directly into ventoy without the need for an external drive for some time now.

Although heavily invested in Apple silicon since July 2021, I am interested in at least a dual boot with Linux. I will keep my fully loaded M1 Pro as long as it meets my music and video demands, which at the moment are far below what the machine could handle - I still haven't heard the fans' operation. I have so far without success attempted 3 different ARM-64-friendly distros in both VM environment and as dual boot. I've lost count of the hours of wasted time, over the past 2 weeks. I may soon give up such an endeavor, and get a separate laptop, just for Linux. Linux is NOT a better version of Windows. If you just want to run your Windows DAW and your Windows plugins then stay with Windows. Although it's possible to run Windows software on Linux with WINE there is always the risk that you get into trouble because the software vendors are very creative with their "downloaders" and "license managers". If you want to use Linux for audio processing then use software that's availabe for Linux. If you need an audio interface with more than 2 or 4 channels then you might need some software to control its internal mixer, in most cases available for Windows and Mac only. Focusrite supports a programmer who maintains a Linux kernel driver and a GUI to control the Scarlett interfaces (alsa-scarlett-gui). Works fine.
@aaronhamburg44285 ай бұрын
This part about the interfaces is the biggest no go for linux currently. Every linux entusuast tells you that all usb comliant intefaces work on linux, this is not true when you need bigger more pro setup with more ins and outs. Unless you find an interface that provides manufacturer suport so you can manage the routing you are out of luck. Those interfaces are hard to come buy and if you want a real pro interface with high quality converters and not a prosumer interface then linux is a total no go. It's amazing how much progress is there and how much easier and better is now when comapred to just few years ago but unfortunatelly it still has ways to go before it is really feasable in proper professional setup.

Thanks for watching! I have stopped putting music in most of my videos because errant copyright claims seem to be a problem on KZbin. Every now and again I'll include an unfinished track in the background.

It's not for everyone! I like that Ubuntu Studio gives you the option to use Jack instead.

Avoid Lenovo laptops.....esp the Legion series. Keyboard sucks and easily breaks. Replacement? Yeah....give that a shot....🤫

@@jimb4090 I was referring to business class laptops, not gaming laptops. I have a Thinkpad T15 gen1 and have changed the display on it myself, added RAM without issue. It's fairly serviceable for something relatively new.

Hello Sir. I use a DAW that needs JACK. Today I installed Ubuntu Studio 24 and I noticed that it didn't have the 'Studio Controls' that were on the previous version. I went through the audio config process and the DAW works. However, when I try to setup the latency compensation, it doesn't work. It also gives a huge latency of 26ms whereas before it was like 2 or 3. I wonder if there some instructions on how to get Ubunut 24 to work with my interface and DAW nicely. I am new to the whole pipewire thing. Any advice much appreciated.

Hi there! Sorry for the delay! In the new Ubuntu Studio Audio Configuration Tool, select Configure Current Audio Configuration, then try a lower buffer value in the Pipewire Quantum screen. The default setting is 1024 48000, so maybe try 256 48000 to get your latency down. I hope this helps!

@@LinuxCreative Yeah. I figured that out but my DAW doesn't get the latency compensation right but that's to do with the DAW and not Ubuntu. I just dial it in manuallly so no biggie. Thanks for replying.
