I'm gonna put in a word for HVAC. I wish I'd gone into that when I was younger. There's a bright future in it, because everyone needs it and in the energy-constricted, hotter, future there will be a LOT of need for those who understand passive heating and cooling. It's an interesting field!

I can tell you it's not being a machinist. Industrial construction for millwrights, welders if you're willing to travel. Plumbers do well. Any trade will improve your chance of steady employment, but many don't pay all that well

Lots of very confident plumbers and electricians in the comments section. First of all, congrats on all the money you make(that's why i almost never call you, too expensive), also only psychopaths would brag about ripping people off like plumbers and electricians do. The best reason to learn these trades is to never have to call these leeches in the first place, DYI is better than handing over thousands of dollars to a college dropout who does a lousy job. I can do a lousy job too, for free. Same thing for car, bike repairs etc. Everyone wants to scam their fellow man, then we complain about how the world is going to hell.

I’m 28 and I’m starting an apprenticeship in stone masonry. Honestly our generation. Late millennial and early Gen Z were brainwashed so hard on Uni = success. No Uni = shit kicker for the rest of your life. Only now I feel like I can have the initiative to get over biases and start having a go in life. Screws the institutions that did this to us. Putting young people into extreme debt to get useless qualifications. Disgusting.

I'm a semi-retired Computer Software Engineer approaching 77 years old. I still work part time as a cashier for a fast food restaurant and actually like my job but there is never enough money to pay for everything. So I've been learning how to do everything within reason for myself. KZbin is a big help for sure and I save tons of money by doing it myself where possible. Right now I'm rebuilding a 40x10 foot redwood deck. I knew I needed some help [two heads are better than one] and hired a handyman. We just got started today and the project is going well. Had I known what I do now I might very well have gone into one of the trades. I definitely do think very highly of those who chose that path and wish all you young guys and gals the very best.

If you're not working for yourself it frankly doesn't matter. 😬 I'm self-employed and I try and pay people very well when I do higher them to work for me. But having someone in between you and your money..... Its a lot easier to collect a check but your hourly goes up a lot when you start gambling on yourself

Beein in the commercial fire sprinkler trade for 25 years. Joined the union 6 years ago... The way I see it, I wasted 19 years not being in the union, I'd have a huge pension by now! But let me say this- *NOT ALL UNIONS ARE GOOD!* But mine is, and had I known my retirement didn't follow, or was smart enough to research for myself, I'd be eligable for retirement right now had I been union. Union dues are around 120 from each check, and my pay is still within the top 3 trades wherever I go. Take all the negative info with a grain of salt, not all of it is lies. But in my experience, my family has a better life for it.

I was promoted to VP 10 years ago. I grew up middle class so it took a long time to stop doing everything myself. But I did it. As you start outsourcing all the work around the house you realize how valuable a good handyman is. If I find a good one I won't balk at what they quote and usually tip them generously. In addition between friends, co-workers, church, and neighborhood chat, you can refer an awful a lot of work to a top notch handyman.

Any trade where you can differentiate your business doing creative, custom work, you'll be able to make really good money by building your reputation and portfolio, and catering to high-end or niche clients. I'm in the business of outdoor spaces, my main trades are horticulture, masonry, and carpentry. I get to be creative and make good money doing it. Though employee pay pretty much tops out in the high 20s/hr (plus benefits), foremen and project managers might make in the 30s/hr. This is my first year self-employed and I charge $50-100hr depending on how well I estimate, and I'm booked out about 2 months.

The video doesn't explicitly say who makes the most money in the skilled trades, but it does mention a few trades that pay well. Electricians, plumbers, and HVAC technicians are all in high demand and can earn good wages. [10:11] The video also says that people who are self-employed in the service industry can make a lot of money. Surface repair, for example, is a specialty trade that is in high demand and can be very profitable. [11:22] Overall, the video suggests that the trades that pay the most are the ones that require skill and experience. If you are willing to put in the time and effort to learn a trade, you can make a good living
