I love people who feel they can take on more risk when they are alone in the cockpit. The dumbest thing to say in the world. Your family is always there with you in that cockpit, whether they are physically present or not. Fly accordingly.

How can you “stay off the FAA’s radar” as a DPE?

Ok this sounds like a DPE in our area who failed like 8 of 10 students. He charges $1000 per checkride. The CFIs at our school stopped booking students with him because he seemed to be looking to fail students.

Was it proved the biplane never had a radio? Just because a biplane look old not all of them are old and most will have radio? Just a question, do uncontrolled air fields hold radio recordings of traffic using the airport frequency?

Dude, check rides are stressful enough without having to deal with that nightmare. You had several red flags though. But you had the right attitude and trusted that being a DPE meant that she was professional and respectable. I would have cancelled that check ride as soon as she told me to never mention her name again to the FAA. She sounds like a complete psycho playing games with you and also trying to trip you up and telling other people that you failed. What a total witch (to put it politely)! You would have never failed that first check ride if you had had a professional DPE. My guess is that she has similar issues in her personal life. By the way, I paid $900 for my check ride in Jan 2024, so it’s not totally outlandish. Glad you put it past you and kept pursuing your dream!

Thx for posting this. My examiner did the same as I didn’t use an autopilot. He took over to act as my autopilot while I briefed the approach and set up. He said he loves to fly too !!

Just got to this video, very interesting! For me, flying is coming out of a place where you always ready to learn and be humble about everything which is related to aviation and gain as much experience as you can, as soon as you get cocky you die. Now, I’m not on the side of the DPE who was not ready for this checkride and this was completely unprofessional. But you, as a PIC should have approached this logically and calmly and clearly stop it before going up in the air it would have prevent all the unnecessary negative consequences.

Had an E with the Johnson Bar. Put an alternator on it. Put some bladders in it. Flew from TX to Seattle, WA, Washington DC. , Pittsburgh, PA , Billings, MT. Flew in and out of Aspen with 3 people on board in the summer. That thing was a traveling machine. Wish I still had it. Got stranded in Billings on 9/11 after doing the prebuy inspection. Don't be high and fast on final or you are screwed. I flew that thing as high as possible if winds were favoring me. Sometimes had groundspeeds over 200 mph sipping fuel.

You should inform yourself with solid knowledge about composite materials, laminates and sandwich structures and how to make a repair on a carbon part before trying to make a repair of that type where you only filled with foam and glue the leading edge of a propeller where there is a broken laminate with all the risks that entails. Anyway, if I were you, I would first look for a professional to make a repair like that on a part that if it breaks...you could hurt yourself a lot or hurt someone else. "The prudent man sees the danger and hides." THAT REPAIR IS POORLY MADE AND THE PART IS AT HIGH RISK OF SUFFERING A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE.

Your employer may also be willing to waive PTO for community service. My employer allows us to volunteer for community activities and they even cover the cost of food and they give us up to 40 hours a year. They can right it off as charity so you might want to ask them.

I had this DPE for a check ride last December. I had a very similar experience like you did. Threw off my program by more than six months and I just passed my check ride do- over today. You should report her ASAP.
