I get the financial logic with a partnership but dang something about just owning your own aircraft and not having anyone else have a say with what you do with it and when sure adds a lot of value -- to me at least.

I’ve really enjoyed watching your progression from paramotor to private pilot to aircraft owner. Thanks for the video Tom and good luck with the decision on the new Mooney. I’ve always said that fortune favors the bold! Sounds like you’ve weighed the options and I’m sure you’ll make the right decision. Thanks for taking us along in this flight. 👍🏼

Awesome vids man! Just a tip I learnt many years ago with retractable gear, could always delay bringing it up after takeoff just in case you need to quickly land back on the runway for any reason. Safe flying!

Thanks for explaining the PC system. A lot of People don’t know much about them. I want to keep mine but finding those parts is tough. The other Mooneys avionics are awesome, not to mention a new Engine. Tough decision. Good luck

Hey brother just wanna say I bought a Cessna 150L and searched KZbin for someone else who has and found your channel. I’ve watched every plane video you have and I love the content. I’m an army aviator but also trying to get to the airlines. And I’m also working on my ppl just like you when you bought the Cessna. Just wanted to say thank you for putting your advice on here.

I've been flying for a long time and have always belonged to an airplane club - flown a range of aircraft models and enjoyed the sharing the expenses. Lots of advantages to having a partner or partners. Good partners, though - need to be careful and have things down on paper as to how expenses are shared.

50/50 sounds good. What might be the time frame to buy him out in a few years? Might be a good way to raise cash and still fly an upgraded plane.

I can see where it would make sense for you with a going from owning with a major overhaul approaching. Where you can jump into a plane with an upgraded panel and pretty much having a recent overhaul and a partner that doesn't fly it much anyway. Of course it's ultimately up to you and your partner if you go through with it. I'm still looking for a way to get in the air and keep up my obligations to my family.

This is one of the problems with new technology. When something goes wrong it may not be a easy fix. I had a g-600 and when the red Xs happened it could be a month until the plane was operational. This is why I am thinking redundancy that can keep the plane flying. Maybe, a couple of G-5s now and a G3 later but keep the G-5 that can be used as primary if the G3 crashes and needs to be sent in. It has to be that a regular A and P can at least keep the plane operating while the unit is being sent in. In today's world there shouldn't be anymore generators! Go to major airport at night and have to taxi and you could find that the plane won't start since the generator won't work under 800 rpm. I had my E retrofitted with a alternator and never had a problem again.

That did look a little bumpy towards the end. The idea of a 50/50 split sounds like the best option, especially as you said he probably won't fly it as much as you. If you don't try, don't get. Safe skies.

If you go 50/50 make sure you write it up, so if you fly more you don't owe more, just because someone does not use the plane does not mean they can scam you out of your deal. especially if you sell your plane. just work it out so you can fly if he does not have it scheduled and make sure you all set how many days in advance you all need for schedules if you taking it out of state or town for days in a row.

Good luck, I realize I am a month late to the party. Building what you like is part of owning a plane, keep that in mind if you are still thinking about it. The new Mooney, what engine does it have? At KDNN there is a 305 Rocket that needs an engine that has been recently abandoned or placed in pre-death row. Just FYI, if it was an Arrow, Lance or C177 I may have tried to buy it.

I think that's a 50k engine alone, plus all the small bits you're going to want to do now. So buy that plane 60k ish to have a decent plane that costs more to do everything from cruise to annuals for more speed and a better climb.

Really been enjoying your content. I just started my Sporty’s ground school for instrument. Hope to have the knowledge test completed by May then bust out a bunch of flying to prepare for checkride. And that other Mooney is sick looking. Sweet panel.

Opening the pitot/static system might affect more than IFR cert but you probably have that all fixed by now. Looks like that newer plane has a few aerodynamic mods, bet it screams (better not fly it).

There are some audio issues with this video. Like all the high end has been cut out making it have a muffled sound. Doesn’t seem as bad when on the ground. In terms of the aircraft. If your goal is to get your ifr the other aircraft sounds attractive. The G5 definitely adds to your situational awareness in my experience.

@@Tommyflies I suspect its just the filter being applied maybe post? I can see why you are filtering the high end due ot that's where a lot of external noise comes from but does make dialog harder to understand. Maybe apply a less aggressive filtering on the high end.
