I love that developers have interpreted a 'take no bs' attitude as something that will make us care about a character. Gamers do not care hahah

As a centrist-right leaning Christian, even I can say y’all deserve way better representation than that dumpster fire of a character. I’ve met plenty of LGBTQIA+ people who are nowhere near as insufferable as, ironically, the people pushing for your representation make y’all out to be. I also just despise seeing crap-quality content from big corporations so everything about this game annoys me.

I think it's pretty funny, I cut ties with my father for many reasons, I even had a cordial conversation where I flat-out told him to take me out of his will and we shook hands and parted ways 4 years ago. Granted my father is a Psychopath, he admitted so to my mother before they got divorced, but I can look back at how he raised me and see that he thought he was doing theright thing to instill in me how to be the best man I could be. The issue however is that I'm not a psychopath like my dad and have 'emotions' that men shouldn't have, in his sick twisted view of the world, emotions got in the way of things and he thought that beating the tears out of me was the right thing to do. Suffice to say, I didn't have the healthiest relationship with my father growing up, and yet I can't help but laugh at how unreasonable Taash is being with her mother. Shathann is attempting to work things out with Taash, she was essentially trained to be like my father as someone without emotion, but even then she's attempting to understand her child and to make things right while admitting her failings. The fact that there's any issue at all seems laughable to me, you've hit the nail on the head with how childish Taash is being. They act out in temper tantrums akin to a child who's still mentally developing, which is ridiculous to see in someone who's supposed to be in their mid twenties.

As many problems as I feel Inquisition had, puzzle design and exploration were fairly solid, at least in the DLCs. The lock puzzle from JoH was actually really fun and challenging, and likewise it was very fun to explore The Descent and Trespasser. I was on the fence with Veilguard, I had planned to give it a shot before I formed any real opinion, but out of curiousity I looked at some gameplay and I am beyond disappointed. It is so far removed from anything resembling Dragon Age.

I once had very close MtF friend who hadn't had bottom surgery. She was really into me, and when she finally confronted me about this I basically told her that I am not into penises, and that I could never really be attracted to her in a sexual way unless she had bottom surgery. While I know part of this was just her reaction to my rejection, she got very upset at me, called me a transphobe (and some other very unkind things,) and then completely ghosted me. It was really a terrible experience and I lost a good friend over it. All of which is to say, I was flabbergasted for having a *very strong* sexual preferences for vaginas. At the end of the day I am attracted to women with female genitalia, and I honestly would not care whether or not someone was born with penis or not if they currently had a vagina and presented as woman... and it certainly feels completely out of my control about what I am physically attracted to... But what do I know? Clearly not as much as the trans activists who want to shame me for being a straight CIS man who is sexually attracted to vaginas and not penises.

This is a pretty amazing review. I appreciated it, particularly your understanding that writing good characters that cause others to truly empathize with people who are not like them, are far, far, far better at advancing perceptions of people than token performative one dimensional characters.

I’ve been called transphobic for pointing this shit out for years and all it’s done is damage my view on trans people, I’ve had to literally program myself not to hate them because of the amount of hate I receive from them and remember all my trans friends who are chill and cool af, these “activists” feel like a genuine psyopp to make people hate them more

For the first time in like, 7 years i physically facepalmed at the non-binary table scene Also the coffee guy reminded me so much of an oddly similar thing. In borderlands 3 there's a character Lorelei (who presents female in that game, but in a later game transitions to male) who's only traits are being a commander and liking coffee. I really wanted to like this character (borderlands is my favourite game series ever) but oh my god it was so hard not to cringe as this character's dialogue was nothing but facebook memes about needing coffee to function. I thought it was so embarrassing to represent a ftm character that way lol

Im nonbinary and when i first heard one of the companions for this game was enby i got excited, and then i started hearing stories, and saw enough clips, and I have never been more pissed off about a character in my life. It's beyond insulting. I started off really digging into this game, but after maybe 5 or 6 hours i started to slow down as i was noticing some of the, uh, writing issues. I never even got to Taash before throwing in the towl. My biggest regret is preordering the digital so I could play it on release day instead of waiting for reviews (or at the very least getting the disc so I could trade it in for something better. Now im stuck with it and have wasted $70 im not getting back)

A very interesting and intelligent review of this anime classic. Her personal experience with trauma and Gren's is relatable. Sad that the "Woke " politics of the current entertainment industry was allowed to destroy the magnificent personalities of the main characters.

Letting y’all know rn that some of us STILL play Saints Row 2006. Don’t believe me? I got countless videos to prove it. :) P.s. Saints Row (2022) is Saints Row in name only and may it forever rest painfully in fiery urine.

@ 42:56 - "They just put up fog doors with a text overlay letting you know it's currently inaccessible. *It's immersion breaking!* " No more or less so than NPCs that teleport into the lift, so that you don't have to wait for them walking into it. A feature you suggested just a moment ago. =/
@Kijinn5 күн бұрын
I'm totally on your side on all accounts...except for the lift! You shouldn't want to have characters that do things that don't match with the game setting. Not even for your convenience. Imagine if that happened in a movie. Wouldn't you be irritated? Are immersion, atmosphere and believability less important to you than time convenience? If a game is a boring waste of time, it's a more convenient solution not to play it, instead of asking for immersion-breaking features that help through dull experiences faster. You recognized a valid point, but suggested an out of proportion solution, IMO.

I'm years late to this because I avoided the live action but I stumbled upon what Gren looked like and was horrified. Gren means so much to me as a trans dude because even though he is cis, I could relate to his body dysphoria. The way they handled him where he was such originally a genuine, beautiful character into an offensive charicature drives me insane.

Maybe this is just me, but the fact that writers for older dragon age created a language and included a word that roughly translates to the definition of transgender IN that language feels more sincere than simply slapping the 'trans' label on a character. One requires thought and intent, the other relies on buzzwords. But i'm just a CIS person on the internet, what do I know? 🙃
@joefloyd57668 күн бұрын
The issue with the modernism aspect is its not bad because it is included. Its bad because they messed up the writing. The idea of a qunari that defies some of the set aspectd of the rigidity of the gender roles of the qun could have been a facinating exploration as qunari view gender as your role in society not your anatomy and physiology. So have taash fighting like a man but also doing womens jobs would be a fun contrast to explore and bring up a cool discussion about the topic in a in universe way that is nuanced. But the level of writing that requires is more then they had the ability to do

I think the big problem with Taash is that they just don’t act like a person. They express no real emotions, not where it counts. It’s all just wit and snark and disrespect. The seen with their mother actually disgusts me so much because no one who wants a real connection with their parent would talk to them like that when they are trying to UNDERSTAND YOU. Taash treats her as if she’s being disrespectful and doesn’t care when all she is doing is asking questions so she can understand. If Taash wanted their mother to know this about them and wanted to have a relationship with her, why would they alienate her like that? That’s not how people talk or react. Not to mention how harmful this representation is as it only furthers the stigma that trans people are inherently aggressive and immediately get angry the second you are confused or misgender them, which is just so far from the truth. I am not trans myself, but I can tell you that my trans friends have to deal with being misgendered on what’s practically a daily basis and I’ve never seen them even raise their voices at anyone, let alone argue or even correct them half the time. In the real world, most queer people are not even comfortable doing that, and the ones who are are not going to scream at you for getting it wrong, that’s an insanely small minority. It’s just ridiculous. Veilguard devs think they are being progressive when all they’ve done is resurface old harmful stereotypes and passive aggressively rub it in our faces like they think they’ve really done something. It’s so shameful.
