I have to agree for business headshots I go for F5.6 -F8 also unless they ask for a shallow DOF. Actor headshots are shot shallower though. I also take a black frame to make sure no ambient light is coming in unless wanted. Aiming for 3 stops under ambient, that way all the light is what I crate and the shutter speed VS focal length discussion is irrelevant because all the motion stopping work is done via the flash duration. Very detailed video, thank you for sharing.

Man, fantastic tutorial. Thank you so much! I'm curious: how much of a deal breaker is the curved reflector on the final image?

Hey bro, I wish you didn't have that noise in the background, it was very very distracting, makes it very difficult to focus on what was said, we don't really need that background music or noise, I hope you either turn it right down or not at all. Thanks. Great video by the way.

Hey, that’s a really cool video! I’m curious, where did you get the rectangle lens cover and the red thing on top of the shutter?

I love these. Only thing i would say is adjust the light for the backdrop so the top portion of the background doesn’t ha ent so much vignette. Of course you fixed in lightroom but if you dont have to fix the better. Awesome work

When you say “RAW” is that the image quality you used? I’ve found it to take up too much space on my hardrive. Great video by the way, thanks!

Jason, would say that the Canon is more intuitive, more friendly user than the Leica ? soon I will be leaving Fuji X-S10 For Canon R8

awesome! I learned so much; mostly the simplicity of the workflow which has been driving me nuts trying to find the best one. one question: do you/ would you show client raw images first and ask them to choose the photos they want worked on? What is the number of processed images do you offer?

I don't have anything to say that hasn't already been said. But, it was such a great video it needed another comment letting you know. Thanks for an excellent tutorial from beginning to end of the headshot process!! And for the bonus action. Now I'm going to look through your videos to see if you did a tutorial for the action. :) I know greedy, right? ;)

first off - LOVE the review, but here's a real question... at F3.5 and greater, is there an advantage over the nifty fifty, which has outstanding resolution at the same apertures?

@@Bigbeardfpv this lens is the sharpest 50mm I’ve ever used, but yes the 50 1.8 produces amazing images as well…the sharpness of this lens can’t be beat at 5.6 - 6.3

Did anyone else have an issue with the Actions procedure? It prompted every single step and for some of the layers, like the texture, it didn't come through right. I'm afraid to delete and add my own stuff without knowing all the details of how it's incorporated. I haven't used Photoshop heavily in a few years so I'm a bit rusty with this 😅

Are we just gonna act like her lower lip didn't have that make up smudge that somehow made it through the entire edit process unnoticed? I know this was meant to be a quick instructional video but I sure hope nobody gets the wrong impression that you can ignore something so glaringly obvious

Great advice re the setup, but in an all-white room with a huge source of natural light, you can see right away that the subject is very nicely lit, and has no problem popping off the background.

This was great! For the editing, you're only doing all that to the photos they have picked, right? Not all the photos you took of them.

THANK YOU!! I completely followed this video to perform my very first headshot job - I watched, re-watched, rewound, all of it multiple, multiple times for the shoot and the editing processes. For editing, I used your Photoshop Actions, which were a huge help (big Thanks again). My client was extremely happy with the results and has booked me for family photos this Fall and a birthday party later this year. All of this, and my primary niche is Real Estate (HDR) Photography. I'm super excited to expand this portrait offering to my Realtor Agents and more. QUESTION: for color grading, do you use the same approach for darker skin? Thanks so much!
