I am from the old school of photography; I still use my Canons cameras, A-1 and AE-1, and my pair of Yashicas 124 (I develop my film in my darkroom). I have not jumped into the digital era yet. I am tired of lugging my cameras when I go to the field (my new career after my retirement😂). I have a degree in Anthropology, and at this time, I am doing my master's in archaeology, so I take many pictures with my 124 with its waist-level viewfinder. I loved my Canon's; besides my yearly maintenance, both have served me very well during these years(both new in the 80s, and my Yashicas were bought also used in the 80s). Your no-BS review for the M6 has given me the option to use the eyepiece and a waist-level viewfinder. I am going to order one today. Thank you, Sir; you gained a sub from me. Stay safe. I am wondering if you can have a short video with the settings used in the M6 camera.

@@JasonOsbornePhotography I have seen numerous posting that describe a preset setting in the panel, which reflects their use of the camera. With my film cameras, I only have to worry about the aperture, shutter speed, and ISO speed. I liked everything about my M6 II (except for the battery life). I recently traded it and an assortment of EF-M lenses in for a used (with warranty) 90D which has similar specs and is native to my collection of EF lenses. I suppose I could have squeezed another two years out of the M6 but I wanted to sell it when It still valuable on the used market. Also despite some drawbacks I missed shooting with a DSLR and now I have one again and the great battery life that comes with it. RIP EF-M : (

I'm looking at the Canon M6 Mii vs the newer Nikon Z30, which is how I found your channel. Price points are roughly the same although my local Best Buy has the Nikon Z30 with two kit lenses (NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR and NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR Lenses) for $1099, vs the Canon M6 Mii at Amazon (15-45mm F/3.5-6.3 IS STM + EVF Kit) also for $1099. I feel like I'm in analysis paralysis at this point because I'm not sure which direction to go. The primary use would be KZbin, although my kids may want to use it for portraits they cannot get from their phones... still undecided. What would you do? Portrait photography would mainly be pictures of the kids at the park, etc.

I'm only starting to get into photography but I do marketing work as well. Looking for semi-professional quality, would this be good? Or M59 Markii?
@topdazzle2 жыл бұрын
Hey Katt - I use both the original M50 and the M6 Mk II semi-professionally for video work and I got my son the M50 Mk II to use semi-professionally for stills. The key to all of them is having good lenses (the Sigma trio for example). I wouldn’t hesitate to use any of those 3 cameras for professional stills work with the right lenses. The only caveat to this would be specific niche use-case scenarios such as outdoors in adverse weather conditions or demanding studio work with complex lighting set-ups. I currently use my M6 Mk II for macro work where the high-resolution sensor is a massive bonus for detail and cropping. I have most of the high-end ef-M lenses and it produces amazing results if you know what you are doing. Great travel cameras too! I hope that’s helpful.

@@KattRuss That’s a great combo and I’m sure you’ll be happy. The most useful of the 3 lenses are the 30mm and the 16mm but for serious portrait work, the 56mm is delicious. A camera at this price point that comes with no built in EVF is a shame. Canon should have ditched the pop up flash and put in a pop up EVF instead. That Cyclops of a clip-on EVF just doesn't cut it if you like to keep things small and unobtrusive.
@JasonOsbornePhotography Жыл бұрын
If you want a camera with a EVF included at a similar price the m50 mark ii is the best bet but the m6 mark ii is still better in many areas spec wise. I feel that with the specs the m6 ii comes with including the EVF would jump the price automatically to about 12/1300 after tax which would make it too close to other cameras in the canon line at similar price points which prob wouldn’t sell, and it would take away the bang for your buck feeling you get now at the current price point without the EVF. Making the EVF optional gives buyers a chance to choose rather or not they 1. Need it at all, 2. Want to spend the extra money. As someone who bought the EVF I didn’t regret it and I find it useful. But it also makes me feel good knowing that it was an optional purchase rather than someone who never uses a viewfinder and always uses the back screen but had to pay for the viewfinder because it was included from the jump.
@msbrownbeast Жыл бұрын
@@JasonOsbornePhotography The M50 does make the grade because that EVF hump makes it harder to place into the pocket. The M6 is more compact but if the Cyclops eye EVF is attached, it makes it very difficult to place into the pocket. How difficult if it to put an EVF into the M6 chassis? The similar sized Sony A6400 series have it. This camera needs an EVF, not a built-in flash. Out in the sun, the LCD display is virtually useless to try to frame a picture.
@tristan6509 Жыл бұрын
@@JasonOsbornePhotography the M50 Mark ii was (and still is) a huge disappointment, people expected it to be the same as the m6 mark ii spec wise but the changes are so minor you might as well call it a mark 1.1 They could've did a software update to the original M50 and it would perform the same as the mark 2

DLSR are dying? Except if you need quick reliable autofocus.... for sports and wildlife.. the best canon/sony has to offer is still light years behind a 1D X III or 5D IV (Sony and Nikon AF is also really good and Pentax is okayish when it comes to speed... still beats mirrorless though) Product Photography Professionals still almost exclusively use the 5Ds because of the Mount, reliability and resolution... DSLR Mounts still have a much much much much much wider range of lenses... except Nikon and Canon still have big holes in their lens line ups for mirrorless.... Why are amateurs so fascinated by Full Frame Mirrorless cameras? Those who need a bigger sensor use Medium Format.... the rest uses APS-C because APS-C has tons of advantages and no real disadvantages compared to fullframe... Especially for videos i see loads of people buying Full Frame Cameras.... and they only use a tiny portion of the Sensor.... bad decision... do it like Hollywood and use Super35... which on Mirrorless Cameras would be APS-C... faster read outs and less rolling shutter.... Also... i really used to like the Canon EF-M Mount Cameras.... but with the RF Mount APS-C Cameras coming out the EF-M Mount is officially dead.... and it was already lacking well made lenses

@JasonOsbornePhotography Жыл бұрын
The Canon M6 Mark ii has great reviews, a quick google search on the camera makes the hype point of the title apparent. The point of the video is to give my opinion and determination on if the camera is worthy of the positive reviews and hype surrounding it. The underrated piece comes from the fact that a lot of people still underestimate the capabilities of the camera due to its size and cost despite the positive opinions. I’m a firm believer that if more people gave it a try it would surprise many, but because it resembles a “point and shoot, or pocket camera, new or inexperienced photographers will most likely pass on it. Which is another point of this video to showcase why it is better than other cameras that cost more and are bigger in size. I’m flattered that you think Canon would appreciate my opinion so much to give me free gear but no, I bought this camera and all my canon gear with my own money and this review is independent of the company….if that wasn’t the case this video would have a sponsored tag and I would be legally responsible to say so…but let’s be real you probably only commented just off the title alone…not because you watched it.
