Excellent advice. A professional artist once told me, regarding using enough paint, to "Paint like you're rich!" The only wasted supplies are the ones you don't allow yourself to use. Thanks, Katie. The new mic is adorable!

What do you use with the water mixable oils? I heard some ppl say you can thin them down a bit with water while other ppl say you still have to use thinners and not water. What did you use here for this painting, or do you not use anything to thin them?

Thank you for these tips, and I agree with all you say, and I underline the idea of Brushes: Flats, Filberts, Rounds synthetic brushes for Acrylics, normally the sizes 6/8/10. Rigger brushes for some small details. Acrylic Paints, I learned my lesson, I only use Opaque Paints, never transparents. I had the hardest time as a beginner getting things to look good because I was using Acrylic Paints that were not Opaque.

Hey Katie🥰 Ive always wondered about this.. I come from the world of oil paint and Im more and more drawn to mixed media, starting with acrylics and collage, then help the oil by creating a surface using clear gesso (given that oil sticks to acrylics by seeping into pores, I imagine that various mediums as well as water reduces the healghy pores in an acrylic film). And the drips people use with acrylics, even the pouring action going on using water, have been very appealing to me. Maybe use high flow acrylics instead? Not quite the same as the feeling of spraying freely though:p
@KatieJobling11 сағат бұрын
Yes! 🙌🏻 oh that sounds so fun! I would definitely recommend using high flow acrylics. Or you can buy a high flow medium and mix it with normal acrylics. Just don’t add a ton of water. 🤗 have fun!

Thank you so much, I have only been painting since COVID as I suspect have many others, and I get so much enjoyment from the whole process. There is a lot to learn, but so what, learning is fun. I have just within the last few weeks switched to heavy body paints and wow I can't tell you how much of a difference they make. I do find them hard to mix to generate the color I want, but thats also a learning curve to get over! Thank you for the great videos, and that mic is very good, thank you from Canada.

Covid is what catapulted me into painting as well. I'm in the US, so painting is going to help me survive whatever it is currently going on down here.

Katie, this is a BEAUTIFUL commission. It looks a bit more realistic than your usual works, but it’s mesmerizing nevertheless. Very nicely done. Thank you for the info on the isolation layer. I’d never heard of that before, but seems like a wise investment after all the time and effort you put into your artwork. I wonder if I might ask you a question or two about the business of art? I’ve followed your channel for ages and ages now. I’ve made my own art channel now and Etsy store and was wondering how you draw the line between recording for the channel and creating for yourself? I’m at the point where I feel I must record everything I paint. Clearly, you’re not. Did you ever face this issue? Creativity is such a delicate balance. How did you create boundaries for your creativity and your business? Thanks in advance! ❤, your fan from ages ago, Pam in Texas😊

Hello Katie, I’m your student in the "Painting with Confidence" course. In December, I painted on a wooden surface for the first time. Before painting it with acrylics, I applied a mixture of acrylic varnish and water (1:1) and coated it three times with gesso. However, the surface was still very absorbent. What can I do better? At home, I also have: wood glue (Ponal) and acrylic medium gel.

I have been so lost since suffering a stroke in my spine and becoming disabled. No one ever thinks that in the blink of an eye,their life can change for forever from what it once was. Although I have learned to walk again, excessive activity is extremely painful & difficult for me now. Honestly, I had just felt emotionally lifeless with no direction or motivation. However,after stumbling upon some acrylic painting videos, I quickly became mesmerized with acrylic painting. Thanks to some beautifully talented artists such as yourself, I am slowly finding my way back to the surface of life again after discovering something so relaxing and calming to focus on and indulge myself in. Surprisingly, as it turns out, I have somewhat of a natural talent for it. I now wake up looking forward to each new day and thinking about what I am going learn to paint for that day. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing gift and talent with the rest of us out here. You, sweet lady, are truely a God send. You are spiritually touching and helping more people than you may ever realize. You have such a lovely talent. I look forward to many more of your "how to" tutorials. God bless! 💝 ❤❤❤❤❤

@ my problem is that when I start adding layers the paint becomes kind of sticky and weird. I don’t know how to explain it well. It just feels weird when I’m applying the paint for the layers and looks weird too
