Awww, my heart. It's true, a loving wonderful partner really can't bring you up if you are depressed - depression is not something one can talk themselves out of nor can anyone else help you out of it aside from being really supportive and allowing you to feel what you are feeling. He was so self-aware and aware of the world in general - not easy to live with that awareness. And, nobody in 2004 was still thinking about she refers to as the "toilet affair" - there's something so perverse that interviewers could not stop themselves from bringing up something that happened in 1998 - or, ever. Ugh. He was so incredibly honest, not masking his feelings, explaining why it took so long for the music. He is so missed - as a musician but more so, as a kind human being. ❤

It's so amazing as this is before he blew so many minds by winning best R&B artist, Best R&B single, Best R&B for album (Faith)- and, because he did, sadly, Black radio here in the states stopped playing his music because suddenly he was perceived as an interloper (to put it nicely) but GM was always about soul and R&B as well as pop. It was such a shame that our racism here in the states came roaring out when he won those three awards; and, Stevie Wonder was the only Black artist who came out publicly to say "soul is soul" regardless of race. I felt so badly for GM then (as I do remember it happening). I can only imagine what the interviewer thought when he finally heard "One More Try" because it is such a stunning piece, vocally, lyrically, in every possible respect - it is a masterpiece.

Sony didn't want to sell that contract to someone else until they showed him who is boss? But Sony made a huge mistake, you prove you didn't care about true artists and 10 years later they became non existent. They cost the fans 2 albums , listen without prejudice 2 and Trojan souls album . Shame on you Sony .
