Hi Jared, I was fascinated to watch. Cracked cylinder heads are a problem. Some owners claim that the cracks are not a problem but that is only true if the cracks are on the surface and don't go all the way down into the water jacket. I had my heads welded up by an expert who does head welding for Cosworth. He (very generously) did it for free as he was fairly certain the heads would crack again. I then had a local machine shop machine the welds and fit new valve seat inserts. I had a couple of years of trouble free motoring but then the heads cracked again. If you have too much pressure in the water jacket you lose coolant into the cylinders on the intake strokes and also lose coolant via the expansion tank and anywhere else it can leak out. By the way, the re-crack after 2 years was due to an overheat when a hose let go. If the engine never overheats, the heads will be fine. I still have the (rusty!) car and will rebuild it again one day I hope as they are super-rare here in the UK. Check out my rebuild here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZuYdYyaabd1gac&pp=ygURbmFnYXJhIGF1dG9tb3RpdmU%3D best wishes.

Bruh, I can't wait to get my 87' RX up and running. I got to repair some of the rust rot and got to take the engine out, disassemble it, and replace/fix anything that's messed up on it. Where did you get the manual to disassemble and reassemble it
@jaredrusk10539 ай бұрын
I've got a Chilton's Subaru '85-'96 repair manual. Also have a Haynes Subaru '80-'94. Both are good. Check eBay if not on Amazon. You got this bro! Stoked for you!

@@jaredrusk1053 I just found a couple on thriftbooks. They're gonna arrive soon, so hopefully they're in good condition. I got both of them for like $15 I hope I'll be able to do this without fucking the car or myself up in the process. At least the guy who sold me the car has a few GLs and RXs. So then I'll be able to buy a few parts from him that I'll need.

Of course I know it. Had one myself for rallying, 1988 and it had 136HP. Unfortunately extremely unreliable car with unpredictable handling. But I guess most rally fans from that era know it too since Ari Vatanen, Per Eklund, Harald Demuth, Mike Kirkland and Possum Bourne were amongst its drivers.
