Thank you for the upload. Very interesting. I liked the "mixtured" aspect of the movie but I wonder how the movie would turn out if the crew just followed Kitano instructions.

Is she speaking to a non-native Chinese speaker for this interview? She enunciates so clearly and slowly here, without a hint of slang or slurring words together. As someone with a modest understanding of Chinese, I was amazed at how easy she is to understand here.

The Japanese short story that inspired *"In the Mood for Love"* is titled "**I'm a Cat**" (我輩は猫である, *Wagahai wa Neko de Aru*) by Natsume Sōseki. Specifically, it's the interaction between two neighbors in one part of the novel that influenced director Wong Kar-wai in his conceptualization of the relationship between the two main characters in *"In the Mood for Love."* Although *"I'm a Cat"* is not primarily about romantic love, its themes of human interaction, social observation, and subtle exchanges played a role in the development of the film’s atmosphere.

People pull the trigger without hesitation and die indifferently. Even if we cling to life like waves, death is always there, like a calm sea. Rather than a sense of despair leading up to annihilation, there is a clear beauty that cannot be expressed through dialogue alone. Personally, I think it's a masterpiece among Kitano's films, and I want you to see it before you die.

Thanks for sharing. But this wasn't that great an interview. I've read somewhere too that he supposedly almost lost an eye in DM, and Hwang Jang-Lee became very upset because of this and refused to do any more takes for that specifik kick. The answer here seems very vague. Much of the rest of the reminds me of the same stuff that JC always brings up himself interviews, instead of some interesting insight into these two movies.
