Sire, I confirm these are not entry level Audiophile. They say it's a 50 ohm pair, and can be not difficult to drive. And then you plug this bad boy into a dac that can do 150 ohm or more; The situation completely changes. These punch way beyond their class.. Like the HD 650/660s you may see a marked difference and enough conviction to pay more. I am yet to see a pair of headphones that can even match the soundstage and clarity; If I walk into a larger room, the audio seems to change.. Nope, not entry level; these are audiophile grade period. They manufacture in bulk with cheap packaging so they come in cheap but that's where the compromise ends. product itself is so good; I got people who never used headphones like my wife to purchase the same one; she went shotgun on my DAC but that's not normal.

I have he1000V2 (orig) he-6 (orig) He1000se from hifiman's brand and other izodynamics collection (kennerton thekk, lcd-4 ...) and prefer 1000v2 and he-6. But my favor its piezoelectric Pioneer SE-700 (near 4Kohm and 75-80 db/mwatt) its pure masterpiece, but unmercy eater of your amp's power ). And also impressed sennheiser unipolar 2000/2002.

Excwllent overview and initial review. Three questions 1. What amp/DAC/source are you using? 2. Did you buy them in the warehouse sale? 3. Would you recommend them? I'm on the fence with the warehouse sale and any guidance you can share would be helpful.

1. Using them primarily with the questyle CMA400i class A dac/amp streaming tidal master music 2. Yup warehouse sale 3. 100% if you are in the US as it ships to US only. I own few cheap headphones like Deva Pro, HE4xx, Phillip xr2 and Ananda SE and now this Ayra SE v3. For those wonder the Ananda SE as of now you can find it brand new for $380 + taxes shipped. Now for the Arya, even thought the organic just release and the price have drop for Arya v3 but it still $1K + taxes. The golden question is does Arya worth the cost more than double the price of the Ananda????? Well, ladies & gentlement.... The moment I open the box and plug it into 90D and SU10, all I can say is Holy F***. The sound is jaw dropping date and night from Ananda. You don't have to switch back and forth to hear if there is a differences. To best describe the sound of the Arya SE is like someone just removes the piece of paper towel from the microphone that muffle the sound all along and now is that is gone, the crystal clear and purity of sound is now peircing throught your ears. Also tried HD660 S2 and S1 those headphone only could compared to level of Deva Pro to be honest.

How do these compare to the HE1000V2? Excluding the “soundstage” what makes the Diana V2 so good?
@hillmtn Жыл бұрын
Diana V2 are simply more technically capable in my opinion. I don't know what black magic Abyss is pulling but the Diana is simply faster, more detailed, and a more resolving planar. It's technical abilities are incredible and perfect for any detail chasers. However, I can see why some would prefer the souns presentation of the HE1000V2, being more airy open and large sounding, not as intimate and closed in your head like Diana

@@hillmtn yeah I’m thinking about purchasing the warehouse sale one for $1,850 but honestly don’t know if I should. I’ve been an IEM person for a while and I switched to the HEKV2 for the sole purpose of soundstage and a more “open sound”. Perhaps it would be best to wait.

Bifrost 2 (original version, not the 2/64) is an endgame DAC not only due to its warm, rich, smooth, thick, layered, punchy and impactful multibit sound but also its galvanic isolation and unison usb implementation which lets you use it with a noisy gaming pc or any source with zero noise.

I listen to dubstep and I didn't like these headphones at all when I auditioned them. I just can't go back to a headphone that doesn't have lots of detail, speed and a wide sound stage. Since I listen to the type of music that you'd think these would be perfect for, I don't understand why Audiophiles who listen to classical music, jazz etc like these headphones. They also are not that comfortable for me and way overhyped in that regard, I personally find the HD700 to be the most comfortable headphone. I'll defintely have to give them another go sometime to see how I feel a second time around.

Fair enough, everyone has their own preferences and experiences with audio gear and the type of music to listen to. I agree though, for something like EDM, dubstep or fast electronic music, something like the Diana V2 which is incredibly fast, detailed and articulate is much better

The newer HE1000V2 stealth, like the Arya Stealth, is more V-shaped, so yes, more bass, and has a smoother treble. Soundstage of the stealth is still very good and wide, just not as good as compared to the non-stealth, which is arguably one of the best soundstaging headphones. Honestly the stealth for $2000 now it is a great deal. I just personally prefer the different sound signature, airy treble, and incredible soundstage of the older HE1000V2.

Could you use these at all with any portable headphone amp, or would it be a total and complete waste of time? I have the Hifiman HE400Is and the HE400SEs, both need a good deal more power than dynamics, but my IFI XCan headphone amp can power both quite well.
@hillmtn Жыл бұрын
I have tried them with Highend portable sources like my Astell&Kern Kann Max, they sounded ok, but desktop application is definitely recommended and preferred
@thiscorrosion900 Жыл бұрын
@@hillmtn I see, that's what I would have expected. Hifiman claims that a lot of their upper tier phones can be driven by portable sources and amps, well, that's more than a bit disingenuous and misleading. Above a certain level their planars shine with a really powerful desktop type amp. It's not just the power but also the quality considerations. But the less you have to worry about power levels, the more you can worry about the quality levels, in my opinion. Plus most of the Hifimans aren't precisely portable. And open-backed by default so they're not for commuting or whatever. Same with most of the Audeze etc. or larger Sennheisers. I like driving my Hifimans with a desktop amp or card so I don't have to worry about draining the portable amp batteries.
@thiscorrosion900 Жыл бұрын
@@hillmtn Another thing I've learned is that impedance doesn't mean much when the headphone design intrinsically requires tons more power to drive compared to a comparable dynamic headphone (I mean planar vs. dynamics). Back in the 80s nobody gave a damn for portable anything you just plugged in your horrid light Panasonic phones into your Walkman or Discman, and you got what you got. These days at least you have amp options for driving better headphones and IEMs but there's a limit to what portable amps will drive properly. Especially given the higher end planars are the equivalent of say, a small pair of KEF or Martin Logan speakers vs. a prosaic cheap pair of JBLs, let's say, that you could drive with any old lower power receiver. You really cannot drive better speakers with that junk.
@blorg8206 Жыл бұрын
The newer stealth version is 93dB sensitivity which is easier to drive than the HE400SE (91dB), same as the HE400i. The older non-stealth is 90dB, similar to the HE400SE.

I have the V2 and I am going for the Diana TC, I have a sizeable collection of headphones including ZMFs, however these are my go to and became my daily driver simply due to the build quality and not feeling like you have to baby it all the time and varnish its wood and other such things.
