AKG K701 Review - Austrian Classics

I just went to a mate's place (since we both like a anime called k-on he was like "I got the mio headphones" I went to his place) and well, the good things people say about them are completely true and if they weren't so expensive I would get them, jazz on them are bliss

well, you can actually pick them up used for around 100$~ I would recommend going that way if you have soldering skills (internal low diameter wires can get snapped rarely)

I just bought an AKG K701 and it's better than I've thought. Bass is lacking a bit but the sound is so airy and delicate it's really a pleasure to listen too. Good Review, too.

Absolute classics been around since 2005 , I have the Austrian 8 bump (headband) versions, if you pair these with the correct amp they sound amazing, despite on 62 ohms these need a powerful amp which can juice them with voltage swing, it's really a night and day difference if you underpower these, the bass really comes to the fore and huge soundstage with separation, also the burn in myth on these is true, 100 hours at least to loosen the variomotion drivers up , do all of the above and you'll be rewarded with a true reference open back rivalling the best out there including electrostatics

Pushing them with the fully class A discrete rebel amp sounds quite incredible! A shame they don't have a detachable cable

I have the OG from Austria. Love them...but you don't have to deal with the lumps on the headband with the China made model.

As somebody who owns a Q701 and a Chinese K701 one I just use the Q701 ear pads because they're much nicer and more comfortable I got my K701 from Japan for 130 barely used basically open box

Thanks for the sub! The box is about 20 x 20 x 30 cm according to Amazon, not really sure about specifics. Weight is around 4 pounds

I have the Austria made K702, the build quality is crap. Not heavily used but the transparent thin inner plastic piece connecting the head band developed cracks in both sides and eventually broke on one side.I now have the HIFIMAN Sundara. Much better build and much enjoyable sound signature

I can see why that can be a failing point for these AKG headphones. Sundaras are great though, enjoy!

hello could you please tell, are sundara's more detailed than akg k702? by detail i mean the great ability to reproduce quiet background sounds/pads without them being overshadowed by loud lead melodies and drums?

Due to the very wide and open sound, instrument separation of sounds and instruments within the soundstage of the K701 is definitely excellent
