I actually ordered mine a couple days ago along with a bunch of other blurays. So hopefully mine will be well packaged and protected in a nice big box. I found a copy on amazon canada brand new from a 3rd party seller with 3 day free shipping. But yeah thanks for confirming the issue with the 110th episode missing. Glad to hear it was just not made instead of it being a manufacturing issue. Makes me feel abit better atleast. Sidenote, i also live in ontario canada. About an hour from Ottawa actually. So cheers dude.👍😅

depends on how you train. if you spar realistically then definitely yeah
@thesharphandpath
@thesharphandpath 2 ай бұрын
@-Highlander-42 Short answer is Yes. Karate (depending on the dojo and style) should teach you valuable self-defense skills you can use to protect yourself in a physical altercation. The caveat with this is you won't learn this right away, it will take years of training and practicing the art to be remotely efficient in it. The person who commented about the sparring is also correct. If you don't do proper full contact sparring on a regular basis, you're not going to get a feel for what a real fight is gonna be like. Even then, fights are more aggressive and faster than sparring. Usually happen when we are least prepared as well. So keep that in mind. I think Goju-Ryu Karate is a great Martial Art. Teaches technique, form, and discipline. It was one of the 3 original styles that were born in Okinawa, and was specifically meant for self-defense.

Hello sir ,where to start .... OK . Firstly ,these films are mostly directed by Chang Cheh and are based on Louis Cha/ Jin Yong novel Legend of the condor heroes, which is a huge tome . The films are more wuxia than Kung fu ,you should expect an element of bewildering fantastical nonsense ,these films can be hard to follow ,the opening sequence of the first movie has about 30 characters ,some of which you won't see in the film and many appear in future installments . By this point in his career ,Cheh was not the innovator he used to be , he returned to wuxia after Chor Yuen bought it back ,the irony is Chang Cheh actually killed it off in the 60's. Fu Sheng is over shadowed by the female leads, (he plays a fool) and they are played by a couple of different actresses, the actress in the first film he had an affair with in real life. In the 4th film ,Kwok plays the main character to add to the confusion. Trying to follow the intricate plot will make your head hurt , like a lot. Some aspects of it are just bonkers , characters appear, then are forgotten and this is relentless throughout the series. In fact Fu Sheng isn't even in Little dragon maiden at all. There is some top notch action in these films ,number 3 has loads of fighting in it and a ton of Venoms . Ranking ,Little dragon maiden ,2, 3, 1 and Brave archer and his mate - which I think is actually not that great . I actually love these films ,they are very confusing but you have to watch them in a different way , if you look for plot holes your head will blow up. And i probably like this set more than the iron triangle box . If you want me to sum up how bat sh1t they are ,at the end of the first film Fu Sheng has a duel with someone that involves recite poetry , banging a stick in time to a beat for a whole year and cooking . Some of that statement maybe true . Enjoy Jessie !

Oh wow, that sounds wild haha. Thank you so much for the indepth explanation of what to expect from these films. I had no idea what I was in for lol. I'll try not to over examine the plot or figure out where certain people are / aren't. I do want to enjoy these films (especially for the price tag they come with haha). What makes you like "And His Mate" the least? Bad acting or boring plot or something else? Also, wow, I'm shocked to hear that Brave Archer won you over as opposed to the Iron Triangle set! Is it really that much of a lackluster bunch of films?
@mitchsfridaynightsongclub2594
@mitchsfridaynightsongclub2594 2 ай бұрын
@@thesharphandpath I think And his mate is just poor, it drags, the swapping of Fu Sheng to Kwok as the main character is just stupid and jarring. In fact there is an awful lot of actors being swapped to play different characters throughout the series. Ti Lung is in the opening of the first film, but he doesn't appear until part 3. I think the iron triangle box is too macho for me and a good few are set in modern day period - which I don't tend to like, don't get me wrong there are some truly superb films, but I binge watched them, which was the wrong thing to do. By the end I was crying for strong female characters. Out of the Brave Archer films, you will probably enjoy 3 most, lots of action with the Venoms and it's all fist and feet. Oh and Fu Sheng does use a bow and arrow right at the start of the first film. Little dragon maiden is very different, it's not directed by Chang Cheh and it features one of the most well known and loved things ever to happen in a Shaw film. When you watch it, you will know exactly what I mean, ha ha!
@thesharphandpath
@thesharphandpath 2 ай бұрын
Ah okay, that might not be a huge problem for me though (as I love Philip Kwok) 😁 Ti Lung is okay, I could take him or leave him for the most part. He doesn't have the most memorable face IMO. "Too Macho" oof... that's unfortunate to hear. I like a strong female lead myself as well. I find cis men can get up their own ass when it comes to being tough and trying to prove their masculinity (which makes it seem so fragile and easy to invalidate). Sorry for getting political btw. Just my own personal societal issues lol! Can't wait to see Little Dragon Maiden in which case, if it's infamous for something so talked about in the Martial Arts Cinema Circle 😃😃😃

@@thesharphandpath I didn't used to be the greatest Ti Lung fan but as I got more into Shaw back catalog he's become a real favourite of mine, and like Fu Sheng he seemed to have been cast aside by Chang Cheh - both actors landed up working with Chor Yuen in the later years. Little dragon maiden was directed by Hua Shan, who made a bunch of late Shaw films - Soul of the sword (Shout set volume 3) is brilliant. As for Fu Sheng, one of his best is Deadly breaking sword, that's a great film even if you aren't a fan of his work.

The only way to be safe is to buy from Amazon...and not Third Party sellers either...It's surprising that in 2024 there are still people selling bootleg dvd's and blu-rays, considering it's not such a big commercial market anymore. I recently saw that Arrow Video has released "Chinatown Kid" on blu-ray...IMO this is Shaw Bros best kung fu classic, next to "Boxer From Shantung," and what makes this release so special is that it is the uncut, 115 minute "International Version," which is a half hour longer than the standard cut, and until now, this version has only been available via a poor quality VHS to dvd rip. Yeah, so this is like "the Holy Grail" of kung fu blu-rays to me.The blu-ray is all over ebay, but the cheap price made me suspicious; why would a new, Arrow release with deluxe slipcover be going for 14 bucks...with a little checking I realized that these sellers were all in China, and their customers had left feedback about their blu-rays being burned bootlegs. .The thing is, "Chinatown Kid" isn't sold individually, but rather as part of a box set called "The Basher Box..." Yeah it seems like there are still people out there trying to rip people off lol. Anyway I am DEFINITELY getting this "Shaw Brothers Basher Box," which coincidentally comes with my second favorite Shaw Bros Epic "Boxer From Shantung." I already have that one via the German dvd, but I don't mind an upgrade for that title...If you aren't familiar with these titles you should check them out; they are both Masterpieces of the genre..

That's so nuts that someone would go to all that trouble, just so they could have a few loose "silver" factory pressed discs for free. I mean, they sent back the original packaging, which is just as important to collectors IMO, and those "burned" discs look like good bootlegs too..Did you play the discs? I'm guessing the picture quality is really good. Anyway is it possible that these are "licensed blu-ray-r " editions? I notice that some boutique labels turning up on Amazon are legitimate dvd-r burned format, which they say keeps production costs low for titles that aren't very commercially popular. Personally I avoid the dvd-r format, even if they are licensed it still feels like a "bootleg" to me. Anyway maybe you will get lucky and they will refund your money and let you keep the blu-rays...

I think this set is my favourite, and even though it contains a bunch of wuxia (meaning "of martial chivalry ,super human ability etc - weapon films ) Shaw had moved on since the early days , basically films were way better. Chor Yuen bought Wuxia back with Killer clans ,then Chang Cheh followed by making Brave Archer . Shawscope 3 only has wuxia films on it ,but all of them are excellent. Shout factory showcase a broader range of directors (except Lau Kar-leung ) so it gives a far better representation of styles and films in general. Arrow didn't feature any film's from Chor Yuen ,Sun Chung or Ho Meng Hua and between the 3 of them they made over 70 films at least . Shaw films were usually Mandarin as this was the first language of mainland China ,even though Hong Kong speak Cantonese, it was a business decision by Run Run . In the 80's it changed and most Shaw films were Cantonese . It was actually a Chor Yuen film (House of 72 tenants )that started the shift . I await to hear your thoughts Jessie , you are in for a treat with this set .

Hey Jessie, I way prefer the first set over the second although I think Battle creek brawl is out of place as most of the other films are Lo Wei produced. The Lucky Stars films are an acquired taste, depending on how much you like comedy. I love Wheels on meals but found some of others in that set a slog. In the UK 88 films and Eureka have been putting Jackie films out on Blu-ray, so we have been spoilt really. I kind of lose interest as the 80's go on. Hope you enjoy your sets.

Thanks for weighing in on these sets Mitch! Always appreciated 🙏 It honestly depends on the comedy. I do like slapstick, and some practical humor bits. One thing that really bugs me (and I know this is probably a very silly thing to get annoyed about) is Sammo Hung's childish looking bowl cut. That hair style does NOT suit him lol. Sooo goofy. Can't take him seriously in that. Shame too cuz he's an amazing Martial Artist, especially for his weight. We need more inspiring Martial Artists with a little meat on their bones IMO. Definitely also feel like some of these companies need to take better care / attention to the themes of the movies in their box sets, and not just grabbing a bunch of mostly random titled and tossing them together to make a quick buck. I really wanna get that Emergence Of A Superstar one, but it's such an eccentric box set. Also not a fan of the layout or doubling up of films on a dvd. But I'll talk more about that in a future video 😁😁

I am still waiting for Magnificent Bodyguard 3D. It was the first 3D movie shot in Hong Kong but only Japanese Laserdisc is 3D. And If we talking about my Jackie Chan movie wishlist I would like to get Jackie Chan cut of The Protector which has extra fight scenes and is a little bit toned down without nudity and pointless gore. Lucky Stars must also get complete set with all 7 movies with classic dub and spin-off called Pom-pom with Charlie Chin and Stanley Fong.

Definitely a good handful of Jackie's films that could lend themselves to the Blu Ray treatment! Would be cool to see the ones you mentioned. Also a blu ray release of 36 Crazyfists and Hapkido etc.

It's not full screen if it was then it would take up the full screen of you're tv but it shows black side bars so it's not full screen.

That's not what full-screen means my friend, there's wide-screen and then there's full-screen. Full-screen doesn't take up the "full" screen on modern televisions. It ends up being a square in the middle.

As I said I think you will enjoy this set much more than volume 1. Both Water margin and Delightful forest are adapted from Outlaws of the marsh, a huge tome of literature, the other film you speak of is All men are brothers, that's on the David Chaing /Ti Lung box. The worst film for me by a good distance was Bride from hell, it's just toilet. Yes there is some mild sword play with some of the earlier films but they are better realised and structured. Dragon missile perhaps doesn't get the credit it deserves and I love Delightful forest. Actually Shaw brothers made the movie that leads up to that film around 10 years later, Tiger killer, although not action heavy is so brilliant and features a superb performance from Ku Feng. Looking forward to seeing your review Jessie.

@CoinOpTV I honestly feel your critiques of the films are pretty spot on. I don't think you're being too hyper negative. The 60s Shaw Bros films definitely had their flaws.

Hey Jessie ,I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on these. Most of the films were given English titles by Shaws excellent translation department, and bear in mind they thought a movie should be called Dirty Ho to try and cash in on the success of Dirty Harry ,we are always going to lose . Hence your disappointment at Invincible fist . Raksha means to guard and protect by the way. Like you ,I find these films a bit of a slog because as a studio they were developing Wuxia ,fist and feet films hadn't happened yet ,so it is mainly sword play. I have seen nearly all of their kung fu /wuxia films (like over 300 titles ) and the 60's ones are my least favourite . That said compared to others from that period ,these films in the Shout set are some of the very best ,give or take a few. Personally I loved this box more than i thought i would ,but get why others don't . The next Shout set is going to be more to your liking. Fist and palm salute .
