Scammed!!! Canadian Hub Sold Me A BOOTLEG Shawscope Vol. 2 | Shaw Brothers Box Set | Arrow Video

I recently saw that Arrow Video has released "Chinatown Kid" on blu-ray...IMO this is Shaw Bros best kung fu classic, next to "Boxer From Shantung," and what makes this release so special is that it is the uncut, 115 minute "International Version," which is a half hour longer than the standard cut, and until now, this version has only been available via a poor quality VHS to dvd rip. Yeah, so this is like "the Holy Grail" of kung fu blu-rays to me.The blu-ray is all over ebay, but the cheap price made me suspicious; why would a new, Arrow release with deluxe slipcover be going for 14 bucks...with a little checking I realized that these sellers were all in China, and their customers had left feedback about their blu-rays being burned bootlegs. .The thing is, "Chinatown Kid" isn't sold individually, but rather as part of a box set called "The Basher Box..." Yeah it seems like there are still people out there trying to rip people off lol. Anyway I am DEFINITELY getting this "Shaw Brothers Basher Box," which coincidentally comes with my second favorite Shaw Bros Epic "Boxer From Shantung." I already have that one via the German dvd, but I don't mind an upgrade for that title...If you aren't familiar with these titles you should check them out; they are both Masterpieces of the genre..

I just checked Canadian Hub and they have some suspiciouse products. The Mandalorian Season 1 and 2 are not out yet but they are already selling Season 1-3 on dvd.

The wife and I feel like it's some foreigner running a scam product website. Definitely never buying from them again. We've still yet to hear back about the box set we sent back. Who knows if we'll get a refund 🤷‍♀️

@@thesharphandpath probably they are buying products from Alibaba. Alibaba sellers don't mind to produce discs if you will send them master copy and cover template.

Does Orbit DVD ship to you? I ordered some stuff from them lately …. sucks about that - if it was labeled as new they should exchange or let you return since it clearly wasn’t the correct thing

That's so nuts that someone would go to all that trouble, just so they could have a few loose "silver" factory pressed discs for free. I mean, they sent back the original packaging, which is just as important to collectors IMO, and those "burned" discs look like good bootlegs too..Did you play the discs? I'm guessing the picture quality is really good. Anyway is it possible that these are "licensed blu-ray-r " editions? I notice that some boutique labels turning up on Amazon are legitimate dvd-r burned format, which they say keeps production costs low for titles that aren't very commercially popular. Personally I avoid the dvd-r format, even if they are licensed it still feels like a "bootleg" to me. Anyway maybe you will get lucky and they will refund your money and let you keep the blu-rays...

No, these didn't play in either of our players. They were definitely bootlegs. We eventually sent the box back to Canada Hub, and got our money back.

Was it factory sealed when you bought it?

It came in a thin box, can't remember if it was sealed in plastic or not. But honestly it doesn't matter. These scammers can easily shrink wrap boxes n stuff.
