The numbers don't add up. The formula for HP is ft lb torque x rpm ÷ 5252 ,hp, and torque always are the same at 5252 rpm . Your 1st run would be good . The 3rd run you would have to have made 243 ft lb at 6200 to get 287hp, which is 15 ft lb more than the 228 ft lb at 5300 rpm. The 5th run 282 hp at 5600 is 265 ft lb or 54 ft lb more than you 229 at 5200.

@PontiacRaysGarage
@PontiacRaysGarage 22 күн бұрын
@@saadiqhaneef5155 I appreciate the kind words. If this is a completely original 301, there's a few things I would do for horsepower upgrades: I would upgrade to a Summit #2800 camshaft, and use new lifters. I would also purchase new, stock replacement valve springs, and a new timing set. This is easily 20hp+. If this 301 is a 2 barrel carburetor, find a 4 barrel manifold and Spreadbore carburetor of your choice to swap to. Then, I would remove the big, heavy clutch fan assembly, and convert the car to dual electric fans. This will free up another 10hp. The final thing I would do is upgrade the exhaust to a 2-1/4" pipe size, all the way back on each side. Look for a build series from my channel in the next several months where I take my 82 Trans Am, with a stock 301 Pontiac, and do systematic upgrades to it to see how fast I can make it.

I like getting the small inch engines to make their max power. About anyone with a bit of knowledge can pull power out of a big block but i like a underdog.Im putting my .30 over 273 together for my 65 Dart GT hardtop this winter,even tho i could get a 360 Magnum for a couple hundred bucks and be at 300 horse without taking a valve cover off.My roadblock is the tight engine compartment of the first gen A bodies literally not allowing headers to fit without mods i dont want to do,and the 273 manifolds exhaust port is really restricted.At top tune it may be able to support 300 horse.

That’s decent power to the rear wheels. I had one back in 1968 I bought new. It had the 400 CI My brother and I slowly built it into a gun street car. 4.30 gear. Headers. Mild Engle hydraulic cam. I think it was about .460 lift. A 780 Holley and Eldebrock aluminum intake. Did a lot of street racing with it. I wore out the Road Runners , GTX , Cobra Jet Mustangs with it. Several 427 Chevelles. In fairness the advantage I had was the 4.30 gears a 3500 stall and a set of 6” drag slicks. It was a very consistent 13.00 at 109 MPH in the 1/4 mile and in the late 1960’s that was fairly quick for a street car. Most of the cars I mentioned were high 13 second cars so it wasn’t really hard races for me. Car was solid and so dependable. Rebuilt the engine at 60,000 miles which was considered a lot of miles in those days. Rod and main bearings looked new so just honed the block new rings and bearings and a valve job and it just kept on going. It ran 13.00’s all the time but never once broke into the 12.90’s. Sold it to a friend who kept it for years. It was such a fun car. I never had access to a dyno but if I had to guess it was probably about what yours just dynoed . Have fun with it.

@@midsouth2strokes185 The trick to getting aftermarket heads to fit the 301, is, nothing at all....they bolt on fine, I'm even using 301 head gaskets. The real issue is having to narrow an intake manifold to fit onto the heads because the 301 block is much narrower than a 326-455 Pontiac engine.
