Back in the day modify eliminator would spin those little small blocks 9000 rpm. It was quite the show.

Just came across your channel, Ive never tore into an engine before and i have a 79 buick with the 301. Any info you can give?

Welcome! What are you looking to do? Drag race, cruise, good street performance? The 301 responds very similar to engine upgrades like any other V8 engine. These are only rated at 150hp or so. How much power do you want to make?

@@PontiacRaysGarage believe it or not, not really looking for horsepower, just a cruiser. but I do love a nice choppy cam.

@@ItzGlitchx put a little cam in it, and make sure you have a good flowing exhaust. It'll be fun.

@@BIGETHABOSS put a cam, around 214 @ .050", recurve the distributor and make sure the exhaust is free flowing, at least 2.25"

You are a God send what can I do to mine I have a 301 in a 78 Lesabre advice please
@PontiacRaysGarage3 ай бұрын
@@saadiqhaneef5155 I appreciate the kind words. If this is a completely original 301, there's a few things I would do for horsepower upgrades: I would upgrade to a Summit #2800 camshaft, and use new lifters. I would also purchase new, stock replacement valve springs, and a new timing set. This is easily 20hp+. If this 301 is a 2 barrel carburetor, find a 4 barrel manifold and Spreadbore carburetor of your choice to swap to. Then, I would remove the big, heavy clutch fan assembly, and convert the car to dual electric fans. This will free up another 10hp. The final thing I would do is upgrade the exhaust to a 2-1/4" pipe size, all the way back on each side. Look for a build series from my channel in the next several months where I take my 82 Trans Am, with a stock 301 Pontiac, and do systematic upgrades to it to see how fast I can make it.

Awesome video Brother!!! 🇺🇸💪🏼 I’ve been running DI water in mine lately to keep the rust down in the coolant system. Seems to work great so far.
