Let's try somwthing a bit easier. Pull your plugs and inspect them for color. If the plug is burning a light chocolate brown it's fine, reinstall it. If it's burning black with carbon it's running too rich or If it's burning white it's too lean. Reinstall the plugs. If black with carbon give the corresponding screw a 1/8 turn to the lean side. Take the bike out for a ride and see if that helped. If it is improved but not perfect stop the bike and give the screw another 1/8 turn and ride it some more. Do this until the popping stops. Do this in reverse to enrich the mixture if your plug is burning white or too lean. You can do 1/4 turns but I find the 1/8 to be more accurate. Which way you turn your screw is different with different carbs depending on if the mixture screw is on the engine side of the carb or on the intake side of the carb. Your screw is on the engine side so cw will lean out the mixture, ccw will enrich the mixture. Run a tank of fuel through the carbs, pull the plugs and check to ssee how they are burning. I hope this helps.

I have an '82 Maxim that I thought needed a new switch. I got one on ebay, maybe the same kind you got and I also got a new battery. The new switch had a 3 pin connector the old one had a 3 pin and a 2 pin! I installed it anyway, and I got a new battery just in case. Got it to start on the 3 pin only! Battery light on the dash is on, and the bike won't re-start if the handlebars are at a certain angle. So I have a short somewhere, it is a 42 year old bike afterall. I didn't use the bike since 2022 as I tackled cancer in 23 so there may be other issues from sitting an extra year. Thanks for the video.

Good trick for air screw setting. OR maybe backfiring is an issue with mixture control valve (pressure release)? I also noticed there is no Breather pipe given on your 81' model's front cylinder head but on rear, I have it on my front cylinder. Never understood why Breather pipe and mixture control valve both are given on front cylinder of my 82' XV750.🤔

Hi, there was a single centre slot on each OEM pads inner side, you have repaled with new without a slot. I myself rebulding my 82' XV750 caliper and replacing new pads similer without slot, does slot have any importence? Exelent video, thanks.
@vintageyamahabackyardresto4995
@vintageyamahabackyardresto4995 Жыл бұрын
That center slot is a "wear indicator". It lets you know that once the slot has vanished that it is time to change your pads. Not all aftermarket pads have this slot, but a visual inspection of the pad should let you know whether it is time to change them or not. Also, sometimes the slot is also used to allow small pieces of the brake pad that have been loosened/removed by friction to be able to leave the brake area more easily. Lastly, some brake manufacturers state that the slots are used to lower the "frequency" of the brakes to reduce squeal or brake noise. I haven't noticed any difference in sound between my slotted and unslotted pads. Thanks!

There are some aftermarket ones, but they are quite pricey. For example: www.elektronik-sachse.de/shopsystem-3/en/digital-ignition-zdg-3-32-for-yamaha-xs750-850.html . My advise, would be to try and find a OEM used one off of eBay. Also, you can check the coil wires as well to ensure they have no breaks in them..etc.
