Because they had absolute freedom and weren't under the regime of communistic totalitarian China, no monopoly, were under British rule which didn't care much about it anyway to control it. Hong Kong was like independent.

I get that it's about the falling style and not the rest of the scene but it's funny at 3:08 when Arnold throws 9 cops at once and the voice over says that style "is more realistic" 😹

I'm on a hype to watch all the venom mob from shaw brothers movies, and watching this about the 80's, you can really tell the difference and evolution these guys went. These kind of action, suspense, impact and thrilling stunts you can only find in video games now.

I always watched them with subtitles because the translation in my language never captured the vibe was just to... ...german 😅 What I really like in those movies is the Cantonese Language. Adds so much value to the scenes somehow. Of course Mainland China taking more over Hong Kong & now alot of HK based movies are just in Mandarin. Somehow not my cup of tea at all & threw me off seeing Movies based in / around HK & guys like Donnie Yen suddenly just speaking Mandarin.

It is indeed sensational to watch these action scenes, but these are the typical exploitation film, nothing to be proud of.

actaully is funny to see how dven animes were inspired by this in the 80s and to this days when it comes to action, the same with tokusatsu and even games!

Your commentary about Lau Kar Leung was very articulate and precise. I knew the Japs and Chinese hated each other over the invasion bit, and this has taken a while to unwind, if you can call it that. On the whole, i must say your presentation is well done!

Totally speechless when it comes to Hong Kong martial arts films. As an 80s kid growing up in India, this was a big deal. Kids are always into action films... and Jackie Chan films were so huge, such a big deal for us, I can't stress that enough. But to see much later on how much they had to risk their lives to bring this kind of entertainment is just mind-boggling. Just watching these stunts and daredevil tactics make my head spin and sometimes difficult to watch. My prostrations at the feet of all these icons who were involved in making such films.

So many great stunts from the films I had to smuggle into the UK in my teens. Back then I obviously gravitated to the stars and the stuntman, all of which should have our eternal gratitude. However, with age has come a long overdue respect/devotion to the editors/their long lost knowledge of tempo of a scene. Nearly all great music requires rests so that the music can fully build to its full potential. If anyone has a page to follow of 80’s Hk editors please educate me. A willing student wishes to learn
