What a great video! Bruce Lee was decades, no, CENTURIES ahead of his time

Ayy, thanks so much, Jose! As a university student, it's tough making these videos but it will be people like you who will motivate me! I'm thinking about just finishing this Bruce Lee retrospective and taking a break - if I see that there are people who are actually eager to see more content from me, however, I will be more than happy to oblige! I'm so happy to hear that you liked the video! Cheers, mate!

Out of interest, would you ever consider analysing Sammo Hung's evolution as action director? I've always felt that post Bruce Lee he is the most significant figure of the HK industry. Bruce himself was even impressed with Sammo's work on Hapkido. Incidentally that's the set on which Bruce ended up sparring with Sammo (and beating him) and almost getting into a real fight with Carter Wong - who wasn't a fan and at the time was the HK Police martial arts instructor. You could make an argument for the Yuen Clan (which included Yuen Kwai initially even though he had no familial connection, the rest were brothers, the sons of Sam Seed himself - Yuen Siu Tien. the Yuen moniker was adopted out of respect for his Peking Opera instructor, Yu Jim Yuen), the Lau Kar Ban (Lau Kar Leung essentially repopularised the classical forms of martial arts post Bruce) and to a lesser extent The Venoms/Robert Tai for being the most influential action director but for me, Sammo stands head and shoulders above them.

I think it is fair to say that Sammo revolutionized the kung Fu film without being given enough credit for doing so. I think his directorial debut, The Victim, rates as one of the best ever filmed

I'm totally shocked about that. You deserve much more credence. Well done my friend you just earned a new subscriber.

I feel Bruce Lee is criminally underrated as a filmmaker. 9/10 you'll see people want to focus on the martial arts aspect or the philosophy when in actuality, he was an accomplished actor and worked in films long before the other two. His directorial efforts in Way and Game are astonishing considering they were his first attempts.

I mean for real doe... I have never seen someone analyze something with such beauty and finess. I mean there are a lot of film critics and experts, but how you just let the film speak through your objective but very smart observation skills, you have clearly changed my mind. From meeh... I love bruce and kung fu films to ~: What in the world how did I miss this artistic beauty inside of all these wounderfull and holy documentation of chinese martial art and philosphy !? Deep gratitude and an even deeper thanks to you sir. As you have awaken something divine in me wich needed to see, hear and integrate this wisdom and information these masters wanted to share with me.

I love how you called Way of the Dragon a “Kung Fu Comedy” because the uncut version is hilarious. I watched the Cut version growing up and it had a couple moments. But when I saw the uncut version, I then found out how much more entertaining it was.

he also played a role in the soundtrack too, he played a bit of percussion on the soundtrack so he could technically be credited as doing the music too as he wanted to out do Jimmy Wang Yu who already wrote directed and stared in his own films and was releasing a film intended to rival the way of the dragon at golden harvests rival the shaw brothers studio

did you notice how bruce shakes his head at three of his opponents in this film and the first two run away and colt is the only one to go forward, possibly why bruces character respects him also
@hoodcollector3 жыл бұрын
dam ive never heard of Bruces saying of the style of no style ,that basically confirms that bruce lee ushered in the beginning of mma like you said one of the key factors of jet kun do is to adapt in a fight with different techniques and how bruce says he dosent believe in styles anymore like he also said be water my friend
@joelman19893 жыл бұрын
He sure did. I think Bruce would be proud of where martial arts is today. I’ve often heard people ask how Bruce would fair in a modern MMA fight. And I think that’s the wrong question. The obvious answer is he probably wouldn’t keep up with today’s top fighter. But would he want to? It’s clear from everything he taught that his most desperate desire for martial arts was for it to evolve. He seemed like a fiercely competitive individual. So I’m not saying he didn’t want to be the best. I think he would have considered his life’s work a failure if in 50 years he was still the best fighter in the world. He didn’t want to be remembered as the only great fighter. He wanted to burst open the doors of the martial arts world. He wanted to see that world progress and to a large extent everything he wanted for martial arts has come true.

Bruce Lee writes choreography like a twelve year old who thinks he understands fighting. I know though, that this is for us the viewer. To satisfy that childlike passion for violence. Personally I'd rather watch Chinatown kid haha
