The flower pots look like travertine on the outside. With plants in them, you'd never know it wasn't.

These look great. The original vases were not my style at all. I would suggest only using these indoors. I tried mixing baking soda with paint for some planters I used outside. With sun and rain, the paint cracked & broke off in pieces. I applied it fairly thickly, then added texture with various tools. Maybe it was too thick. Maybe adding glue to the paint would have helped. I just peeled the rest off, sanded the container, re-primed it, and painted it without baking soda. Also, added several coats of outdoor sealant. One thing I often do when I am using several different colors to make something look old or distressed, is add a bit of one color, maybe brown, black, or terracotta, to a clear sealer (I usually use matt for a distressed ambiance) and apply it with a sponge over everything. That transparent layer seems to hold everything together with just a tinge of one hue.

I love that idea of using a color with clear to give a nice opaque look over the entire piece, thank you for sharing that! I agree to not use these outdoors mainly for indoor decor purposes only. I have made one for outdoor and i used cement to distress the pot with dirt and sprayed it with clear sealer and it looks so good even years later I love that pot out there.

I spent soooo much time and money using waterproof spray on my outdoor cushions. After all that, it didn't work. Very frustrating. I can't wait to try this method! Thanks!
@DavidOwenCreates2 ай бұрын
This is not the most comfortable I will admit and you must take the cushions in when it rains bc the fabric on top can still get soaked and mold if it’s not properly dried out in the sun ☀️ just a heads up

Which is better, Joint Compound or Spackle? When do you use a wet vs dry brush for painting? When do you use wet vs dry sponge?
@DavidOwenCreates3 ай бұрын
@@CindyPhillips-z7j joint compound seems to dry harder and you can use it almost like clay and add in texture if you want to as it starts to set. I would use a mix of both dry and wet it’s more on how you want the application to look on your piece, you can achieve different textures just try it out. I would say experiment with the wet vs dry as there is no wrong or right way to do this I just show how I achieve the look

Just came across your video, I’m amazed at what you’ve achieved. Been looking at some vessels as decorative pieces here in France and they’re really expensive. Might just have a go at this next time I’m in a brocante or vide-greniers.
@DavidOwenCreates3 ай бұрын
I’m amazed the fact someone from France is watching my video ! 😅 thank you so much!!! I never thought this video would start taking off the way it has! I’m glad to share all my tips and tricks as just creating something always seems to make me happy in the end, knowing that I put my hard work into something- even if I upcycled an old vase in this case, not everybody has the budget to go pay for pottery studio classes and create a vase so this is a perfect example of an alternative way to get the same look for a lot less money! I probably spent $4 on each vase and the paint was already in my craft stash but easily say another $3 add on with brushes and paint - that’s also going to last me many more future projects. I can’t wait to get back into KZbin and sharing more amazing ideas I have in my brain.

Will these pots retain their colors outdoors?
@DavidOwenCreates3 ай бұрын
Probably not with weather - maybe if you used cement and mix paint with cement to create texture on it - it may hold up outdoors
