I'm getting ready to build one of these. Was going to put a 1.20 in it, but yours flys great with a 91. So the only other question I have is do you recommend putting flaps on it or would it fly just as well without them? Thanks

Very nice Jenny! It had an electric motor for an engine? Everything looks very scale. I’m making a smaller scale version and curious what the engine cowling was made of. Thanks!

My friend Larry the builder says "thanks for the comments." Also that he made the cowling from several aluminum panels.

Hi Nelson, Thank you, it’s great to watch this video and such a big B-17. It’s hard to image how hard it would be if your friend Larry started and adjusted these 4 engines all by he himself. Great job !

These airplanes benefit from a larger diameter prop. I feel a G26 is too small/low power for a plane this size. It needs nose weight anyway. A DLE 35 would be better suited, and that gets you up to an 18-20" prop. A friend just gave me one of these kits, and I am thinking about putting a DLE 40cc twin.
@J3Flyah
@J3Flyah Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Yet my G-26 provides plenty of power for a like-sized 1/4 Pup. I must throttle back to fly realistically scale. Full throttle gets me through maneuvers and out of trouble. Yes, I did have to add weight in the nose. Later flights by Jack with his Nieuport were successful with the G-26. On my 1/4 SPAD XIII I have a DLE 35 and that power is needed for it. Much larger and heavier than the Pup. Enjoy you build with the Nieuport. Check other posts and forums regarding the use of 40 twin on it. My personal opinion is that it will be way over powered.

Hello, Nelson It’s more than happy to see you all flew together in air, also great to see you all keep each other informed in advance whenever you intended to turn. This is a very good way to avoid any possible collision I believe. It’s fantastic, well done

Hi Nelson. Thanks for this video and thank you Jack for sharing. I've found this short clip very informative / instructive. Would you comment an what you think was going on i.e. RPMs too high. I have my suspicions but I'm too inexperienced to comment publicly. You did a great job assisting and calming Jack so he was able to connect and get ahead of his Seventeen. I hope the flight ended well.

Thanks for the comment. Looking at the video a few times now, it appears the flight smoothed out as the 17 gained speed. At the time I was suggesting that Jack "throttle back" when early in the flight it was getting a little unstable. After Jack made a few passes over the field, it straightened out and had good speed. Now I believe part of the problem the 17 was just flying too slow. Yet too tail heavy because of the porpoising we saw in the air. On your takeoff it sounded like his Zenoah G-26 was not developing enough power. Later on in flight the engine was running good. I wonder if the 16x8 pitch was too much and loaded the engine up. Just my opinion. Yes, the 17 made it back down okay.

Last year, I completed my Lazy Ace “76”. Installed RCGF 30 cc twin. The plane weighs 16 1/2 lbs and the engine pulls the the Ace around with authority. The Ace is and enjoyable plane to fly in all kind of windy weather.

Hello David in GB, I spoke with Tom the owner of that Lazy Ace. Unfortunately it smashed and became unrepairable. He has since put another Lazy Ace in the air. This version weighs 13 lbs, 7 oz, has clipped wings, and is underpowered with an Evolution 15cc engine. The engine sound? That was my attempt at "American" humor by dubbing in the sound of an actual Cessna 172.

Thanks for responding Nelson, much appreciated. I have a project to finish but then I'm pretty keen to build a Lazy Ace; just gathering as much information as I can at the moment, but currently thinking I'll use a 25-30cc glow mounted inverted.

Fantastic accomplishment you guys. I have been looking at this one for awhile now after building the 1/4 scale BUSA Tri plane, and Sopwith Pup and finally got one today. I noticed that you have excluded the flying wires - are they not needed because that would save a lot of hassle during setup at the field for sure? BUSA said the Sopwith pup did not need them either and it makes a difference with set up and tear down.
@J3Flyah
@J3Flyah Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comments! This being my fifth BUSA kit, it was one of the better builds. I also currently fly a 1/4 BUSA Pup (see my other videos) and it does not have flying wires either. Not needed, and would only add more time to the setup at the field. As with your other acft, you'll probably get a routine down that will speed up the setup time. Enjoy your build. Hope to see pics/videos of the finished results. Regards!
