Two BUSA 1/4 Scale SPAD XIIIs Build Projects

These Balsa USA kits were recently built, and waiting on maiden flights - WIND and weather dependent.... Larry Inness and myself modeled the SPADs after Eddie Rickenbacker's and the "Hat in the Ring" 84th Aero Squadron, 1st Pursuit Group of WWI fame.
They were covered with a linen-like material (Koverall) and latex paint. Roundels hand-painted. Larry's has a DA 35cc and mine a DLE 35cc RA for power. Larry's 18 lbs and mine 20 lbs which included 2 lbs of added ballast to get the proper balance.
Eventually we will get these in the air and be flying formation together. Video of them flying will follow. Thanks for viewing the slideshow.

Fantastic accomplishment you guys. I have been looking at this one for awhile now after building the 1/4 scale BUSA Tri plane, and Sopwith Pup and finally got one today. I noticed that you have excluded the flying wires - are they not needed because that would save a lot of hassle during setup at the field for sure? BUSA said the Sopwith pup did not need them either and it makes a difference with set up and tear down.

Thanks for your comments! This being my fifth BUSA kit, it was one of the better builds. I also currently fly a 1/4 BUSA Pup (see my other videos) and it does not have flying wires either. Not needed, and would only add more time to the setup at the field. As with your other acft, you'll probably get a routine down that will speed up the setup time. Enjoy your build.
