Great review - I especially appreciate how you addressed the focus motor “grinding” noise when shooting video. I’d previously used some F-mount glass with the FTZ (original) adapter and the noisy motors in these old lenses kinda ruins the on-body sound. Have you experienced that, if you use an external mic on the hot shoe, that you can’t hear the focusing? Picking this up would save me so much over the Z-mount 70-200 but I’m just not sure!
@MannsWoodlandPerspective21 сағат бұрын
If your mic is anywhere attached to the camera you'll hear the f mount AF. It's not as bad on AFP lenses though. You can put a mic in a different place, on a boom, us lavs, record audio in a separate take or us licensed audio tracks. There's ways around it but it just adds one more step. And thanks!

Last black friday this camera got as low as 18 or 19 hundred. Would be nice if it dipped even lower this year. I'd suspect the 7iii to be coming soon.
@MannsWoodlandPerspective2 күн бұрын
I'm honestly not sure how a Z7iii would fit in on the Nikon map. The Z6iii is 2000-2500$ The Z8 is 3000-3500$ The Z7 series occupied the 3000$ release price point. While I would welcome a brand new higher MP 64 iso sensor with improved DR, I'm not sure if people would buy that over a similar spec but faster Z8. From my experiences between the Z7ii and Z9, the dynamic range is very very close. Not much of a trade off for landscapes and portraits.

@@1970rsc the Alphagvrd skins are 50-80$ depending on lens. I'm active on discords and people constantly ask about the skin and I find myself repeating answers every couple of days. It's been on for about 18 months or so. The more I use it the less i feel it's useful overall. In the sun they can move around a bit when hot. Seams never perfect aligned. Less grippy in the wet. Great content thanks. I presume your crop mode is just using DX in the camera as it's 19.4mp, so did you have to more the camera back a little in DX mode? And the 1.5 crop is a greater factor than the TC's 1.4x so if anything using Full Frame (FX) and then cropping to the same size as the TC would be a 1.4 crop and give you more MP than 19.4. So you might get slightly better quality from the crop still! 😀 I'm not sure why I use the TC now, I guess you have more MP to use in post but then you have to use AI to sharpen and denoise or if you crop maybe use AI to enlarge to the same MP which might be better.
@MannsWoodlandPerspectiveАй бұрын
Yes, crop mode is 19mp. The camera was not moved back. The Megapixel difference between 1.4x and 1.5x is splitty some hairs. its not going to give you more than a couple hundred pixels in either direction. Having to run the images through more processing to rebuild a file from using a TC is just extra time taken. Its gotten to the point now I just never use the TC. Not worth all the extra editing efforts and the random atmospheric conditions that can play havoc with it. So my 1.4x Z TC is on ebay right now. No one wants to buy it though LOL
