What is a full case load? Or what does that look like ? For a BCBA What are some things you would look like when looking for a job? And what are some red flags of this industry? I’m working as a BT and for me cancellations and not getting paid for them is bad news. Also some companies take forever to find you a new client others say you’ll get 30hrs and you end up getting 4 hrs per week. It’s been a learning curve for me… even in early intervention (they don’t go to school yet) I couldn’t get enough hours. They change the pay rate for driving time and at times the will purposely schedule your lunch so that they don’t have to pay for your milage. Those are some that I’ve learned as a noob 😅 😮 Non compete contract 😮duration of time?! 😮

I’m an RBT for the last 2 years and I am about to start my Ba for Psychology and can’t wait to work towards becoming a BcBA I love the field even the challenges and love that it challenges me so I can’t wait to do this, and plus the pay that comes with it!

Im feeling stuck. I want to go for my Masters in ABA, but i am not a RBT nor can i afford to go become a RBT full time (currently make over 70k in a non ABA role). Someone told me i shouldn't become a BCBA because i haven't become a RBT and i wouldn't be a good BCBA. I don't want MCMAs or RBTs thinking I'm a bad BCBA or i can't do it because i wasnt a RBT. Currently im a supervisor so i wonder if OBM is right for me.

It took me less than 2 years (not counting the break I took to figure out life) I also did the max hours each month

Also, back when I took the exam we only needed 1000 hrs. I didn’t the advanced program of 1500 hours because I opted out of the practicum course at my university.

I came across your video because I’m looking to change careers and I was thinking about pursuing BCaBC Certification but all the videos I come across are young people and I’m a woman of a certain age. I’m just wondering is there like a age limit where you should get into this line of work and if so why do you believe that?

Great question. Personally I know BCBAs from 24-60 + but I think the average age of a BCBA is 35. Depending on who you work with. this job may require a bit a physical “play” especially if you are working with kiddos, sort or like a teacher mixed with a play therapist. As we get older some of us don’t want to get down on the floor and play for hours or keep a client safe who is attempting to run away or hit themself. Yes these are extreme examples but it happens. However I hope this doesn’t discourage you from entering into the field. You don’t have to work with kids. You can work with adults, or teach. I don’t think anyone is too old for this field. Wisdom and lived experience definitely needed. I hope this helps. Oh, and I think the younger ones are the ones creating content about their jobs.

I have my test tomorrow and I’m pretty nervous/anxious because all though I did good on the knowledge check I was given, I’m nervous for the fact that the competency exam is in person not just on paper. This video made me feel a little more at ease tho. Ik the material I just have to make sure I don’t choke when asked to apply 😅
