Boris Yeltsin knew the Soviet Union was doomed when he saw the Supermarket in Texas. Almost 40 years later, American nationalist & trust fund baby with the most punchable face in America; *Tucker Carlson* glorifies an authoritarian Russia for having cheap groceries, when their cost of living is several hundred dollars lower than the average American cost of living. I get the feeling he really wanted to say “groceries are akshully cheaper because the woke left doesn’t exist in Russia.”

As a former LDS member myself, I was also disappointed how Johnny did a record setting speed run of Mormon history. Truth matters because too many people are misguided about these issues. Especially the one giving all their time, talent of money to an organization who never has to make good on it's promises.

The Greatest Showman isn't a movie based on or telling the story of PT Barnum. It's a Hugh Jackman musical, period

Apart from the inaccuracies, I believe the movie was great, watching it in 2025 as a 20 year old I could not have been more fascinated. I believe those inaccuracies might be a mistake and/or personal prejudice against Communist governments or Soviet Union, regardless as you rightfully said, all the actors and the director were on the top of their game.... Well, except the judge, I did not like the Judge.

A fun but tangential link I have with this story: I work in the Showroom Sinatra moved to after the Sands pissed him off [the Golden Nugget, his dressing room is mow our green room] and a friend of mine is Wayne Newton's sound guy. We are both transplants from Chicago and have worked in a venue, the Riviera Theater, that still has rumrunner tunnels running from it to the Green Mill. The Green Mill was a speakeasy in the 20s and is still a Jazz bar, the Riviera started as a Movie Palace, but is now a concert hall. The tunnels still hold booze today, they were converted into walk-in coolers for the Green Mill and Riviera.

I can't deny the ussr did some terrible things. But overall I still stand by them, if there is a government I support It'd be the one that's trying to bring up the working class and attempt to treat humans fairly. But I'll also clarify that I'm very young and will remain open to new ideas and allow my opinions to change. I don't want to become stuck in my ways, and I'll try to remain as open minded as possible for as long as possible.

Systemic Racism Systemic means Systemic describes what relates to or affects an entire system. For example, a systemic disease affects the entire body or organism, and systemic changes to an organization have an impact on the entire organization, including its most basic operations. By this definition Racism affects everyone in America no matter what color your skin is

Here’s some honorable mentions for race related riots in American history; -The battle of Liberty Place(1874) -The Battle of Brisbane(1942) -The Rodney King(or the LA)Riots(1992) -The 12th street Riots(1967) *Cypher mentions it in passing and has a video on it but it’s worth doing you own supplemental research as well* If you all have any others I’ve missed, feel free to say them

Ey, everybody knows David Copperfield felled the Berlin wall. He thinks so. Although he really didn't matter. Not some idiot, who didn't know when the policies of his party were implemented. ("Das ist... nach meiner Auffassung sofort, unverzüglich" legendary words, spoken like a true member of the German socialist party. Confused and clueless. Not as good as Walter ulbricht, but really legendary. ) Rousseau is a bit of a bad example for saying we shouldn't make him responsible for what his ideas caused. 😅

Super job and it seems like more often than not a movie deviates from real history even when the real historical version of a story is a better story. Now, this was a really good film but could have been even better. Well told by you!

One point you might shy away from is the not so optimistic conclusion, that a lot of people simply WANT to believe the propaganda. May be the propaganda of 'ye olden days' was simply overestimating the amount of mental work people put into questioning a seductive narrative.

@@CynicalHistorian It was abolished on paper in 1861, by Emperor Alexander II's manifesto. Land still belonged to the landlords and the peasants still belonged through communes. Peasants were obliged to buy back the land, which would take 49 years of equal redemption payments. Many remained indebted and in indentured servitude. The payments lasted up until 1907 and until then lasted a "-de facto ban on the departure of "obligated" and "ransomed" peasants from their land," Serfdom fully ended after the Sovets shook up social classes during the revolution.

Though here is one as well I hear a lot: Stalin was Pro Hitler which simply isn’t true. The USSR actually called for an intervention into the German Reich when that was declined the Soviets Would later take a Nonaggression pact with the Germans because it gave them more time. Stalin never believed the Germans were going go keep the nonaggression pact up though the USSR was still caught off gaurd heavily from the Invasion. Sorry if this is somehow confusing or incoherent it’s 1 am as I write it.

What I should point out is that Moscow and the whole of Russia live in 2 completely separate worlds, especially when it comes to income, salaries, standards of living etc. So judging Russia by Moscow is completely irrelevant. Even if we consider several regions like Tatarstan or south of Russia which is in general is better off than most of the country. Once again, Russia is pretty much hypercentralized, and had always been in its history, and the way America is governed is completely reverse compared to Russia. Most of the income Russia recieves is concentrated in Moscow. Moscow at some point does feel like an enclave of the 1st world surrounded by 2nd/3rd world.

Old propaganda treated its viewers as intelligent. Also the scarcity of the media played a big role. When all you have is an airwave you need to get really picky about what you transmit. There was a reason the broadcasting companies were very regulated. With the massive expansion of connectivity a lot of people found themselves faced to messages that were larger in scope than they knew, without any centralized control. Once malicious characters started to use this poliphony for gain it was over for civilization as we knew it.
