Shaft not quite true. Also might be some magnetic strength difference on "bearing" magnets. For a relatively cheap unit. I'm impressed.

Wow! May it also work with heat produced by the sun? You may need a collector and a heat pipe
@robdawkins5 ай бұрын
I believe there are some satellites that use the heat from the sun to work Stirling engines. Not checked it out though...I have seen a US stirling engine being powered by sun though. Check out Solar models, they have a mirror that reflects onto hot tube.

Hey, I am currently building one myself for a school manufacturing class, and wonder if you can help me, I am building the alpha type engine, and I am aiming for a bore of 2 inches or if not, will do 40mm, wondering what gap has to be between cylinder and piston, materials for cylinder will be mild steel, and piston will be either made with aluminum, or a nylon with aluminum sides(if I will make a low heat engine), I know I am asking a lot, but also how do you calculate the diameter and size of tube between cylinders???@@robdawkins
@robdawkins5 ай бұрын
@@Pussinboots-ll1om ....love to help. But.... I only buy in stuff that might need some minor work. I have only hand tools and a garden bench to fix stuff. Happy to measure up and send any measurements, as long as I can leave it intact. Took me a while to time it and get connections right. This engine is aluminium for most part, base brass, water cooling pipes and stack copper; also nylon has been used for sleeve guide. Good luck....

Been researching this for a while and from what I've gathered they'd have zero torque you could put your pinky finger on a big one and bring it to a halt very neat and interesting but basically useless for anything requiring more torque than a fan, haven't seen anyone successfully power a generator with one yet

@lemagicbaguette19176 ай бұрын
I've seen that most Stirlings run on one atm of pressure. How high do you think we can take the pressure and, therefore, torque before it breaks? As far as I can tell, the cylinders are closed, which might make it possible to overpressure it irrelative to the sky.

Waverley is powered by a three-crank diagonal triple-expansion marine steam engine built by Rankin & Blackmore, Engineers, Eagle Foundry, Greenock, Scotland. It is rated at 2,100 IHP and achieved a trial speed of 18.37 knots (34.02 km/h; 21.14 mph) at 57.8 rpm. Passengers can watch these engines from passageways on either side of the engine room. The main crank is solidly attached to both paddle wheels so they cannot turn independently of each other. The Waverley therefore has a much larger turning circle than modern ships several times her size. From there web site...
