Yes i see thi alot. At 5 - 4, many fencers deceive the referees with the serch of the blade inside 4m, which looks like an attack to the body or a change of line. But the referees do not acknowledge it as serching for the blade.

that's because it was Kaboom, not FIE. You and I know that people don't have patience to look in this format. Any chance you can isolate the bout? and post it on your channel? I will share with a few comments. My plane to Lima is taking off. So I am tapped out for the weekend. Thanks.

It's interesting to see foam sabres with no equipment. I run a portable club. It's always logistically difficult to bring equipment in for new fencers who want to try fencing. Do you think they would be good enough for someone new to try the sport (have a lesson and some bouts), before investing in their own equipment?

sure. We teach Intro To Fencing after-school programs and summer camps at the schools, 99% is done with Foam. Plastic towards the end. Metal - last day, if you like what you see, come to the club.

lockdown gives us time to think, clean out closets (metaphorically speaking), interact with friends and colleagues. working on and reviewing other coaches' zoom sequences, I came across a number of exercises re: establishing RoW with the point. coincidentally, I got reminded recently of Dr. Kogler's anticipation principle as a key differentiating factor of more successful elite fencers (One Touch at a time). And then I found this short/simple drill/clip which seems to be putting the two together. pretty cool.

One of the foundational pillars of Vladimir's school of thought - "candy" as a distraction, as RoW, Kogler's "anticipation", - all in the game, interactive, contact framework.

Hello Coach, Nice video! Thanks for sharing this. I have a question about the back shoulder position on the lunge. It seems you want it to be angled forward kind of like a boxer but relaxed. Why? Couldn't this shorten the reach as well as make the defensive box larger?

Thank you for making this. I remember watching this bout back in the early days of youtube. Fencing has changed a lot in such a short time. I noticed Pozdnyakov's sort of backward half step as a preparation and his on guard stance. His back leg is sort of angled forward a bit and tends to not be straight on his lunges but rather bends with the knee coming downwards. Is this on guard position perhaps because he started fencing at a time when crossing your legs forwards was still possible? He must have been real uncomfortable to fence. His distance and timing are so good. Montano doesn't seem to be having a lot of fun in this bout.

first off, thank you for sharing this. I understand that calls need to be tight in the box but a lot of these are for me, too tight. You guys obviously know a lot more about this sport and have much more experience so I ask you, is there anything within your power, you can do to get rid of this particular apsect of the game? This part of the game is in my opinion really detrimental to everybody involved, the fencers, coaches, spectators even the refs. Can you fix this? when looking at any highlight videos of saber fencing we see long footwork persecutions and amazing blade work. Very little, if any of these videos (Cyrus of Chaos and Sydney Sabre) ever have any of these kinds of touches. There must be some sort of reason for this. Could it be that what everybody wants to see is just that? less 1st zone or in the box fencing and more movement and bladework. What do you think?
@nazlymovfencingblog3384
@nazlymovfencingblog3384 6 жыл бұрын
great question. let me push back on the first assumption - "i understand that calls need to be tight". Look at the call on the 7th second, - that's an Olympic ref and a 12-year old kid making "simultaneous" call against against their employer/father who immediately concedes. The call is there in the DNA of the sport - definition of the RoW/Attack per rule book. So I am not sure whether it is about "more experience". Yes, we can throw these out, forget the rule book, and call everything simo, The inconvenient truth is that you can definitely forget about "movement and bladework". Because, we know what will happen next - it will become about "moving forward" with the arm behind your back. i thought we were "been there done that". The current National Coach of the Italian Sabre won 1989 Jr WC in Budapest literally running in circles. I was there. I think it would be a great question for him - bcz his students dominate the world right now under these set of rules (when enforced), would he want it to go back to 1989?

@@nazlymovfencingblog3384 Is that Sirovich you are talking about? I don't understand everything you are saying. I understand the bit about things repeating themselves and certain ways of calling the ROW may come and go to still yet come back again but as much as I appreciate this video for helping me understand the calls in the box, if I were to show this to other refs without the words indicating attack or simo, I'm sure the calls would vary somewhat and depending upon their level a lot. can you make one of these videos without the calls and let me have a go at calling them? also how best to train for this? thanks for your response.
@nazlymovfencingblog3384
@nazlymovfencingblog3384 6 жыл бұрын
@@esgrimaxativa5175 this is not a ref training video. This is a part of training and athletes were told to do their best to do the attack. And yes, some of these calls are so 51-49 that I would not be surprised that a big portion of them will be called simultaneous and frankly as a coach, i would not have a problem with that. But here's an interesting question to ponder. Those close ones that are 51-49, almost everybody in the gym knows which way the call/action was, who had that tiny priority in timing, distance, explosion at the right time, etc. And in real life, another ref calls it simo. What happens next? Where's the threshold? 55-45? 60-40? And if you are the one doing only 40, do you know that? do you understand that you are getting away with it or do you actually believe that it was a 50-50? Does your coach come over to the ref and say things like, Com'on, it was simo [btw, the biggest give-away that the athlete was watching]. True simo's are rare. As an athlete, it is suicidal to keep doing 55-45 attacks that are not being called in your favor. You understand why, right?
@esgrimaxativa5175
@esgrimaxativa5175 6 жыл бұрын
@@nazlymovfencingblog3384 Thanks again for your response. This is very interesting to think about from a coach and athletes perspective. From a parent's, spectator's or perhaps interested martial artist's perspective , I'd reckon they'd look at this and say what's wrong with these people, especially if you explain to them some refs call things differently. Problem is, when you have these refs calling it simo most of the time or at least following some sort of consistency with their calls and then you see bouts where all these 51-49 touches go against you and when it is the other way around and called simo, you look around to see other nodding heads of agreement. Strange sport! 20 years in and I still think it needs fixing. What's your opinion on the whole "Russian box of death" from a few seasons back? We spent a whole summer training this and it basically eleminated everything we are talking about above. also, any news on these tests or investigations on sensors or smart sabers that detect properly given cuts?
