Funny. HUGE Hip fan. But my least fav Hip album is Phantom Power.... (I LOVE Poets lol) I'd recommend starting with Up To Here (1989) and work your way up in chronological order. Thanks for the vid.

Just finished Phantom Power for the first time, holy shit that album is incredible and there's so much to it. Poets i feel like is a fine song, but I 100% agree there are better songs that could've opened the album🤘

Totally disagree with you on your opinion. I never listened to Avenged until this album, only because I heard Nobody on the radio and thought it was ok, and I heard their other radio songs but never heard an album. So it was the day they released LIBAD and downloaded it and gave it a listen. It was different but not bad, the more I listened the better it sounded. Then it was all I listened to for a long time. And they are the first band I genuinely liked in years. Even saw them in concert when they came through. I started in on their other albums and I now got why people are saying what they’re saying about it. But I still think this album is my favorite. Just wish there were more songs on it.

The thing that I realized about nu metal is that it requires more out of the bands that perform it than most other genres-yes, including other metal sub-genres. This is largely because, as Rick Beato puts it, nu metal riffs are built around being devoid of blues (and thus the traditional blues scale doesn’t work), and are instead built around chromaticism, similar to 20th century classical music. Now atonal music is not generally catchy per se, however well-placed rhythmic emphasis can make such applications of music theory MUCH easier for casual listeners to enjoy, which brings me to my next point-you have to know what notes to play, what key to build your riff around (and where to break the key with intentionally off-key guitar parts), and how hard to hit the guitar strings on each note in order to create the desired effect. Also many bands in other metal sub-genres use technical proficiency (especially on guitar) to compensate for not really being great at songwriting (by overloading the listener’s senses), but in nu metal that isn’t really possible for obvious reasons, so any weaknesses in song construction (especially if the guitar riffs are generic) become blindingly obvious. Really the goal of nu metal riffing is to imply harmony that doesn’t exist while making the listener move to rhythm and groove that does…which is actually REALLY challenging. So that’s the first big hurdle. The second is that for such music to work, you need a vocalist who can sing well-and crucially intonate well over atonal chord progressions and riffs, as well as said vocalist to be good at rapping (which is HARD AS HELL-while achieving the bare minimum level of technical ability is easier with rapping than with singing, actually rapping WELL is HARDER than singing well) and metal screaming (which is INSANELY hard, as even a slight weakness in technique can result in every scream feeling like a blizzard of broken glass in the throat)-and the ability to switch between the three styles basically AT RANDOM…which to do WELL requires either one vocalist with Mike Patton/Dimash Kudaibergen-level ability (so that all 3 vocal styles are the best versions of them possible) OR 2-3 vocalists with a level of teamwork and coordination approaching that of a professional football team (so that they can finish each other’s lines, layer their vocals, take over for each other midway through a vocal run, etc.)…

34:25 Sorry Crash, cant jive with you on this one. I'll have to shave my tongue after this, but I'm with pitchfork. He did more than I would have for that review. I wouldn't have spun it. The point of a review, at the end of the day is to tell you if it is worth a consumers time and money. And no music, no matter how good, is worth that hassle period.

A guilty pleasure to be either really bad songs you like, or a song you really like by bands you really dislike. So let me see what 10 I’ve got in the tank:(this barely scratches the surface) “Hey Soul Sister” by Train “Onset” by Buckcherry “Blank Space” by Taylor Swift (I know people) “Photograph” by Nickelback (I REALLY know people) “Uptown Funk” by mark Ronsen and Bruno Mars “Always” by Saliva “Right Here” by Stained “Blurry” by Puddle of Mudd “Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus “One More Night/Payphone” by Maroon 5

Seems like Green Day didn't want to release Cigarettes and Valentines for whatever reason, because how nothing has gotten leaked from the stolen master tapes? Not even a track listing. Doesn't help that they just happen to get them back. I would not be surprised if it was a bs lie to get more time making American Idiot
